Kerry,
Hello.
My condolences on losing Charles.
He was a terrific person and teacher.
Charles helped me to finish my master´s degree at Sac State. He also hired me as a writing tutor.
Rest in power, Charles.
Best regards,
Seth Sandronsky

Charles influenced my career in ways I may never be able to fully articulate, showing a clear and indisputable path to equitable outcomes through basic writing and the necessary dignity of all students. He helped illustrate the ways our systems often fail students and the ways we could help counter those forces.
And he never laughed at my developing knowledge of grammar.
His wit and charm were only secondary to his remarkable kindness, which is what I remember most.
He and Kerry even gave me furniture when I was at one of those awkward life moments, and I remain most grateful for not only the generosity but the confidence they both had in my ability to make a difference in higher ed.
Kerry, I´m so very sorry for your great loss.

Professor Charles Moore, was a mentor and friend during my years as a grad student at CSUS and early in my career. He was so kind and generous with his time and help. Because he hired me as a staff tutor and as a grader for the CHP exams and the WPE, I was able to pay rent and survive during grad school. I will remember his gentleness and kindness with love and, with much gratitude, celebrate his life. My deepest sympathy goes out to his love of 40 years, Kerry Phillips, and his close friend, Sarah Phelan.

My heart is heavy with this news. Charles was such a strong (and kind) mentor for me. Both he and Kerry really shaped how I understand teaching. And more. Not only did he feed my understanding, but he generously opened his home and kitchen as well as his heart. He was a force in my life.

Im so sorry for your loss. I only have fond memories of him. Charles was my senior reader for my thesis. He was so kind and helpful. And I also learned so much about reading really dense prose critically. I modeled some of my teaching methods after him. He was quietly wonderful but a force too. He will be missed.

Dear Kerry, my heart goes out to you. I´m sending my deepest sympathy your way. What a great man Charles was. I, and so many others, owe him the very start of our careers in English instruction. He hired me as a staff tutor for the CSUS English tutoring center and for grading the CHP exams. So many of us grad students could pay our rent and survive independently through grad school because he made sure we had those opportunities. He was an excellent mentor for new educators. But more than that, I loved Charles for the twinkle in his eye, his gentle voice and smile, and his kindness. He (and you) as men living your lives together in a committed relationship in the 1980s were a bright light of hope that I, too, might be able to have such a loving relationship of my own one day. Thank you both for all you did for me and my classmates. My deep sympathy goes out to you and to Sarah.
