Clifford Curtice

June 3, 1930 - October 22, 2025

Lotus, California - Clifford Curtice, born in Elma, Washington, to Merle and Frances (Ward) Curtice, was 95. He was a Hospital Corpsman E6 US Naval Reserve, 1948-1958. Cliff was the first president (1951-1952) of Alpha Phi Omega Kappa Sigma at Sacramento State College. An academic, he became a charter member of Central California Archaeological Foundation and taught field archaeology at Sacramento State College, summer 1955. Cliff taught biology at C.K. McClatchy HS 1956-1964, and anthropology/sociology at Sacramento City College, 1959-1993.

Cliff was an Eagle Scout registered with the Golden Empire Council for over 80 years. He was program director of nature studies at Camp Harvey West 1950-1956, and program director Camp Winton 1968. He enjoyed genealogy, hiking, Nordic skiing, dancing and volunteering at American River Conservancy. He regularly removed litter on road to historic Coloma-Lotus.

Clifford is survived by daughter Lynnette Curtice; granddaughters Julie Wailes (Dustin) and Amy Swerdlow (Edwin Schermerhorn); and great-grandsons Matthew and Joshua Wailes. His son Lee and grandson Zachary Curtice predeceased him.
