Dave Potter Obituary

POTTER, Dave

After a brief, courageous battle with cancer, Dave Potter passed away April 14, 2008 peacefully at home with his wife. Dave was born September 4, 1953 in San Francisco and grew up in the beautiful Napa Valley. Dave believed family, friends and community were the basis of a full and rich life. For these reasons he chose Roseville for his home...the place he wanted to raise his family. When we moved here it was still a small town...it reminded him of his childhood home in Napa. Dave enjoyed family vacations, family holiday get-togethers, golf, fishing, the outdoors, late night pinochle games in Napa, poker games with the guys, first Friday lunch, TOTTAPA, the Annual Spring Training trip, Lake Davis and all the characters that live in Portola. Dave was a long time member of the Native Sons of the Golden West which he said was an honor he was very proud of. He was active in Roseville Kiwanis for a number of years and served as Club President in 1996 and 1997. As a business man in the Roseville Community, Dave was part of a group that started Roseville First National Bank where he worked from 1984-2001 as a Sr. Vice President. Dave was most recently a Sr. Vice President at Granite Community Bank. With his whole heart Dave believed in community banking, developing roots in the community and as a result established many lasting friendships along the way with those beliefs at their very core. Dave graduated from Napa High School in 1971 and Chico State University in 1976 before settling in the Sacramento area where he met his wife of 28 years, Eileen. They met, of all places, in Elk Grove where they were both playing in Championship softball games. They were married in October 1980. Dave is survived by his wife Eileen; children David and Dawn; granddaughter, Nevaeh Potter; parents, Dave G. and Rosemarie Potter; sister, Diane & Ted Miller (Charles, Amelia); in-laws, Dave Denes, Brian & Janet Denes (William, Shauna); his Aunt Gladys Stockam, Aunt Jane & Uncle Pete Franusich; numerous cousins, their children, a large extended family and a host of friends in both the Napa and Roseville/Sacramento area. He always said a man was lucky to find that one special person to call friend...Dave was fortunate to have had so many more than that. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Dave L. and Ethel Potter, maternal grandparents Fred and Freda Raina and Uncle Fred Stockam. Services will be held on Sunday, April 20, 2008 at 10:00 AM at Lambert Funeral Home, 400 Douglas Blvd. Roseville, California. Please join his family and friends for a celebration of his life immediately following the service at Sierra View Country Club, Alta Vista Ave., Roseville, California. Dave requested, in lieu of flowers, that any donations you wish to make be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Society, 120 Wall Street, 19th Floor, New York, NY 10005, or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718 Oklahoma City, OK 73123.

Dad you have always been my friend, mentor and biggest supporter. I will never forget all the times that we spent together from the time I could walk to the end. I loved every camping trip we ever took and all the family trips with mom and Dawn. You taught me so much when you were here and I am going to take what you taught me and continue to better myself and be the man you taught me to be. You were always there for me and always gave it to me straight, you never were one to sugar coat anything. Going through all the pictures from the time I was born until now brought back every trip and event we ever did together and it brought a smile to my face and made me laugh remembering the whole trip. You always told me that you were proud of me when I was playing golf and how you could see so much of you in me. I never understood that until now. I love you dad and I will think about you every day, when my time comes to see you again you'll find me with a smile on my face and my arms around you. I love you dad and i will miss you but will never forget you.
