David ALVES Obituary

ALVES, David D.
June 16, 1941 - Sept. 15, 2011
Dave was born in San Diego to Juanita and John Alves. As a child he lived in Long Beach, and during his teenager years, he moved to Sacramento. He was in the first graduating class of La Sierra High School, 1959.
While working at a gas station and attending college at Sacramento State, he met and married the love of his life, Sharon (deceased) and later they had two children.
After graduating Dave worked for the State Personnel Board while attending McGeorge School of Law. He passed the California State Bar examination and joined the staff of the Office of the Legislative Counsel in 1970.
For the next 31 years, Dave served as an attorney to the California Legislature rising to the level of Principal Deputy, Legislative Counsel before retiring in 2001. He was remembered as a great resource to state legislators and colleagues and was especially gifted at training new attorneys.
He made the most of his retirement, by traveling with Sharon to every continent. His enthusiasm for motorcycles continued throughout his life, including owning 3 different Harley Davidson's.
Dave loved animals, especially his cats. He and Sharon rescued several feral cats having them cared for and neutered by a veterinarian. He even managed to house-train a few of the kittens.
He leaves behind son, Gerald, daughter Corinne and son-in-law David Piazza, sister-in-law Patty and brother-in-law Ronald Suter, grandson Daniel Alves and his mother Kris Alves, granddaughter Camille Piazza, and nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Prayer Service will be held on Friday, September 23, at 1:00 PM, Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 7101 Verner Ave, Sacramento. Memorial donations can be made to: Abandoned Cat Team, Tax ID #68-0454999, 327 E. Alpine Ave. Stockton, CA. 95204.

Our deepest sympathy to the family who Dave loved so much. They will certainly be missing their Poppy. We had the good fortune to share a number of travel adventures with Sharon and Dave in their retirement years. It is our belief that Dave probably had a bag packed ready to go any where, any time. He is a wonderful companion to others, both personally and professionally--inquisitive, funny, willing to try new things, supportive, caring, and just great to be with. Put us on the list of those who will miss this extraordinary man very much.
