David Dunlap Obituary

Our warrior, David Darryl Dunlap, passed peacefully on June 13th, 2018, in Sacramento, California. David was born on November 19th, 1941, in Portland, OR, and spent his youth working on a farm in central Oregon. After completing High School, David enlisted in the Navy, from 1963 to 1967. After 4 years of service, David moved to Gardena, CA, where he met his wife Haruko. Together they had two children, Debra (Redwood City) and Donna (San Francisco). The family moved to Banning, where they lived until a wonderful job opportunity landed them in Crescent City. Ultimately, David and Haruko would call Elk Grove their forever home. David worked for the FAA from 1966 until his retirement in March 1994. He later went back to work with Raytheon, and purchased a fifth wheel. Both David and Haruko enjoyed many adventures together, and traveled throughout the States, including Hawaii and Guam. David spent his free time with his family, and especially enjoyed time spent with his grandson. He loved hunting, building things, making furniture for their beautiful home, and fishing. David was a handy person, and could fix anything. Everyone in the neighborhood knew where to go if they needed a hand. Some of his most memorable times were spent with his buddy James and neighbor Neil. A favorite trip was fishing for salmon in Alaska with his daughter, Debra. He is preceded in death by his parents Doak and Mildred (Stepmother) Dunlap, Evelyn and Wade (Stepfather) Worthington, Brother, Howard Dunlap, close family friend James S. Smith, and beloved dog, Gracie. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 51 years, Haruko, his daughter Debra (David Yeh), youngest daughter Donna (James Hawkins), David's grandson Ren, step sisters, Sharon Dunlap, and Gail (Scott) Whitcomb and their children. David dedicated his life to his family and friends and was a true hero. He will be sorely missed by those who were lucky enough to cross paths with him. He was laid to rest at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, CA.
