Burlingame, California - David passed away peacefully at home in Burlingame, California on August 8, 2023. He was born on October 10, 1933 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nancy; son, Wade; daughter in law, Tess; grandchildren, Jessica, Tammi, David, and Nicholas; and great grandchildren Claire, Giovanna, and Lucas. David was proceeded in death by his daughter, Carol, and his parents, William Wayne Painter and Helen Jane Rees Painter.
David and his family moved to San Leandro, California at an early age. He attended Washington Elementary, Bancroft Junior High, and San Leandro High School, as did his future wife, Nancy. David went on to attend Oregon State University before enlisting in the Army and serving two years in Okinawa as a radar specialist.
David returned to San Leandro where he started dating the love of his life, Nancy, in 1957. They married on October 3, 1958 at the First Presbyterian Church in San Leandro. Soon after they had a son, Wade, and daughter, Carol.
David was passionate about his career in banking where he formed many close relationships with colleagues and customers. He started with Bank of America, but spent the bulk of his career at Crocker Bank and Wells Fargo as an executive.
David loved family vacations in Palm Springs, Maui, Kauai, Echo Lake, and Lake Tahoe, where he enjoyed swimming, hiking, and hanging out with family. David's favorite hobby was genealogy and he managed to work his latest findings into most conversations.
A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in San Leandro, California on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Salvation Army.
