Doris Branstrom Obituary
Doris Irene Branstrom
October 19, 1922 - July 3, 2024
Carmichael, California - Doris Irene Branstrom, 101 years, joined her loved ones in Heaven on July 3, 2024. She was born at home on the family farm in Strobleton, PA to Perry and Elva Daum on October 19, 1922. She had three brothers and attended a one room schoolhouse until high school.
After graduation from high school, she met Robert (Bob) Branstrom while attending business college. They married in April 1944, after he became an officer and pilot in the Army Air Corps. The couple settled in Russell, PA after World War II.
While there, they had a set of twins, Barbara and an unnamed brother who died at birth (1948), Beverly (1949), and twins Bobby and Bonnie (1950). In 1951 the family moved to California, settling in Claremont, where Doris became homemaker for her husband and children. As an accomplished seamstress, she made much-loved clothing for her family, and as cook and baker prepared delicious meals and desserts. She was active with the Girl Scouts and church activities. She enjoyed music, playing the piano and singing with a vocal group, while encouraging all her children with church choir, dance classes, and piano lessons. In 1964, the family moved to Carmichael, California, where she and her husband lived for the remainder of their lives.
The family cherished many trips together across the country by car, plane, and train to visit East Coast family and friends. Once the children were grown, Bob and Doris continued to travel, including trips to the Holy Lands, Egypt, Alaska, Hawaii, China, and cruising the Panama Canal. Doris was Bob's copilot for many trips along the West Coast and to Pennsylvania.
In April 2015, Doris and Bob celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary. Bob preceded Doris in death, and now they are once more together. She was also preceded in death by her infant son, daughter Barbara, and her three brothers. She is missed and survived by her children Beverly (Frank), Bobby (Dee), and Bonnie, as well as 5 beloved grandchildren, 7 precious great-grandchildren, and numerous cherished nieces, nephews, and their families.
She will be buried with her husband, Robert Branstrom, in the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery. The family plans to celebrate Doris' life and legacy with a private celebration later.
