Douglas Keith DARMSTED

Doug Darmsted passed away at his home in Carmichael, CA on July 14, 2017 at the age of 92. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Marian, his two daughters Nancy Nos (Doug) and Carol Neely (Chris), four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. The youngest of five boys, Doug was born and raised in Oakland, CA where he developed his "do-it-yourself" attitude and his mechanical skills. He could build a car or a house from the ground up and always preferred to figure it out for himself rather than consult an expert. Doug graduated from Oakland Technical High School, worked for Pan American, and served in the US Navy during WWII. In 1948 Doug and Marian married and soon relocated to Sacramento. After several years of working as a butcher, Doug completed training to become a mechanical draftsman. In this capacity, he enjoyed a long career with both Aerojet Gen Corp. and at McClellan AFB. A man of few words, Doug never hesitated to help friend or family build an addition on their house or make a home repair. He and Marian loved to travel and saw most of the United States and much of the world on trips with family and friends. Doug enjoyed playing cards, watching the 49ers win, and dancing with Marian. After moving to Eskaton, Doug spent many hours in the woodshop building furniture for both residents and the facility. His favorite activity, however, was spending time with family. Doug was extremely proud of and encouraging to his daughters and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed. At Doug's request there will not be a formal service, but friends and family are invited to an informal gathering on July 30th from 2:00-4:00 in the Fireside Room at Eskaton Village, 3939 Walnut Ave, Carmichael, CA. Remembrances can be made to Shriners Childrens Hospital, Sacramento or to the Eskaton Village Carmichael Resident Assistance Fund.
