MURATA, ELIZABETH F.
''BETTY''
Was born on July 23, 1911 in Courtland, California. She passed away peacefully in Sacramento, California on August 6, 2002 at the age of 91. Betty was born in Courtland and moved to Sacramento where she was raised and educated with her family at the age of 5. Betty was primarily a homemaker, she enjoyed sewing and traveling. She traveled with her husband Kiguma "Jack" Murata while he was employed with the US Geological Survey; they were able to visit many geologic sites in Italy, Brazil, Japan, Costa Rica, Hawaii and many other places. They lived in Washington D.C. for 40 years and Palo Alto for 7 years before retiring and settling back in Sacramento. She was a longtime member of the Sacramento Japanese United Methodist Church, the Japanese American Citizens League (JACL), and the Sacramento Japanese United Methodist Church WSCS. Betty leaves to cherish her memory her son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Cookie Murata of Riverside, Connecticut; her sisters, Kimi Shimizu, and Yvonne Noguchi, both of Sacramento; her brother, Ard Kozono of West Sacramento; 2 grandchildren, Robert Murata and his wife Yuki and Sharon Murata; and 1 great-granddaughter, Amy Murata. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hatsutaro and Kane Kozono; her husband, Kiguma "Jack" Murata; and her sisters, Lorraine Hara and Yoshiko Oji. Friends are invited to attend Memorial Services on Saturday, August 10th at 3:00pm at the Sacramento Japanese United Methodist Church, 6929 Franklin Blvd., Sacramento. In lieu of flowers Memorial Contributions may be made to the Sacramento Japanese United Methodist Church Legacy Fund.
