Emma Rodriguez Obituary

RODRIGUEZ, EMMA
Passed away in Sacramento, CA on January 14, 2005 at the age of 80 years. Born in Gomez Palacio, Durango, Mexico December 31, 1924 to Jesus and Maria Alvarez. Preceded in death by her husband, Rogelio Rodriguez. Beloved mother to Catherine (Peter), Ruben (Linda), and Richard (Anna). Forever remembered by her grandchildren Kimberly, Richard Jr., Tyson, Victoria, Robert, and great-grandson Francisco. Emma began a lifelong career as a restaurateur in Santa Barbara, CA while working as a young girl by her mother, Maria's, side in the Rose Cafe. She moved to West Sacramento, CA in 1950 and founded, along with her husband Rogelio, Emma's Taco House. With her hard work and determination, Emma's Taco House evolved from a six-seat counter restaurant into two thriving businesses that have been fixtures in the greater Sacramento area for over 50 years. While Emma will often be remembered as cooking in the kitchen at both her restaurants, she also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends; whether it was traveling to Mexico, Europe, other states, Reno, the wine-country, or simply to the movies, she lived life fully and with panache. Even though she achieved success as a businesswoman without a college degree, Emma held a strong belief that her grandchildren graduate from college and all either have or are well on their way to doing so. Her children and grandchildren will always be grateful for the work-ethic she instilled in them that has enabled them to fulfill their goals and dreams in their own lives. Friends are invited to attend the Rosary 7:00 PM Friday, January 21, 2005 at the GEORGE L. KLUMPP CHAPEL OF FLOWERS, Riverside Boulevard and 2nd Avenue, and also a Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00 AM Saturday at Our Lady of Grace Church, 911 Park Boulevard, West Sacramento, CA. Interment St. Mary's Cemetery.

To the Family and Friends of Emma, I only had the opportunity to meet Emma twice, and both times, she was happy and joyful and loved life. My thoughts and prayers are with all who's lives Emma touched. God Bless

Emma was "Our Aunt", even though she was my mother's first cousin.

I will remember her as honest, generous, witty, challenging, assertive, and hard working. She called it like it was. She was my role model, (we are both short), and she named me.

She will be missed by the many people that loved her.

My Sincere Sympathy is sent to the family. I have many fond memories of Emma. She was a very endeared friend of our family. She could be "fiesty", she never gave up hope that I would try her tacos, however I never ate anything in the restuarant in twenty some years but the hamburger! Yes she made a mean hamburger too! She had a wit about her, she was a kick in the pants. She was a caring, honest, hard working, thoughtful and gracious woman. She will be missed by many lives that she touched in many ways. May you rest in peace sweet lady!
