Franklin WELCH Obituary

WELCH, Franklin Maurice ''Frank''
Franklin Maurice ''Frank'' Welch, age 86, died on Friday, June 25, 2010, in Newton, N.C. Born on June 25, 1924, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to the late John Henry Welch and Hattie Evelyn Cobia. Frank grew up in Tyhee, Idaho, and graduated from Pocatello High School and Idaho State University. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps, trained as a mechanic and pilot, was a singer-entertainer in the special services entertainment company, but never left the U.S. Frank married Jean Dolores Kent on June 9, 1948, in the Idaho Falls Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The couple moved to Yuba City, Calif., where Frank taught in the single room Winship school house. They then moved to Sacramento. Frank taught at Alice Burney Elementary. He received his Masters in Education from Sacramento State College. Frank tried his hand over the years at various business ventures. He sold insurance and securities, worked for the California Teachers Association, then for California Dental Service. Frank retired in 2004 from drafting estate documents. Frank enjoyed photography and gardening. He arranged singing opportunities every chance he could get. He was a handyman and built a home for his father while living in Pocatello. He cared for his wife at home for years during her decline with Alzheimer's. Frank assumed that everyone was his friend. A life sketch, photos, and some of his poetry and singing are available at www.frankwelch.info. Survived by his children Gail West of Reno, Nev. (grandchildren Drew and Larry), David (Paula) Welch of Omaha, Neb. (grandchildren Nate, Brian, Lorin, Emily, Stephanie, and Brandon), and John Welch of South Lake Tahoe, Calif. Survived by his siblings Vivian Empey, James Welch, and Glen Welch. Preceded in death by his wife Jeannie, sister Evelyn Stuart and son-in-law David West. Viewing and family visitation on Monday, July 5, at 9 a.m. and funeral at 10 a.m. at PRICE FUNERAL CHAPEL (6335 Sunrise Blvd., Citrus Heights, 725 2109). Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Gooding, Idaho.

To the Welch family - please accept my deepest sympathy. Some of my fondest memories from Alice Birney those many years ago are of Mr. Welch - he was such a positive influence!

My condolences to the family of Frank Welch. Mr. Welch was my sixth grade teacher at El Dorado Elementary School in Sacramento. He also taught P. E. during the time when we were doing push-ups and sit-ups as part of the Presidents Physical Fitness program. He was very likable and a good teacher.

Dear David and to all your family: Sending my most sincere sympathies and prayers as you endure the painful experience of losing your father. My hope is that your happy memories will stay with you forever, and bring you comfort as your father passes on to his next life and purpose, and is reunited with Jeannie, where there is no pain or sorrow. God Bless all of you -

I'm sending my sincere sympathy to Gail, David, and John and your families. Although I had hoped to attend the service, I cannot get away from work. Some of my fondest childhood memories were of time spent playing at your home. The three of you and your parents always symbolized the loving, caring, sharing perfect family to me, and I learned a lot from all of you. God Bless you all.

Our condolenses to the family. Frank and Jeannie were our good friends. I enjoyed singing with Frank in our LDS ward choir and my wife had the opportunity to help care for Jeannie in the latter time of her life. They were both the nicest people you could ask for and we have fond memories of them.

Dave, Paula, Gail, John, and families,
Please accept our condolences. I remember your father frequently donating his time in support of our various teenage excursions and adventures. He and your mom were both very patient and supportive with us.

My deepest sympathy to the Welch family. Mr. Welch was a positive force in the lives of his students at Alice Birney. And he never missed an opportunity to sing! I remember him with fondness and admiration.
