Harry CULP Obituary

CULP, Harry Lindy
March 3, 1928 - March 16, 2011
Passed away at the age of 83 from complications of pneumonia with his loving family by his side. Harry was born in Checotah, Oklahoma. He is preceded in death by his parents Harry Sr. and Bertha Culp of OK and his sister Harriett Six of Rio Linda. Harry is survived by his bride of 63 years Ann Culp; by his brothers Robert Culp (LaRue Culp) of Elverta, Jerry Culp of OK, George Culp of Texas; his sisters Dixie Huls of OK and Ruby Hamlett of CA; his son Lindy Culp (Marilyn Culp) of Sacramento and daughter Donna Roderick of Citrus Heights; grandsons Branden Culp (Robin Lack-Culp) of Lincoln, Todd Culp of Sacramento and his two much loved great-grandsons Tyler Culp, Garrett Culp and many nieces and nephews.
Harry owned Culp Soil Stabilization for over 40 years. He was from the generation of men who kept his word and made a deal with a hand-shake. He was known as tough but fair, giving the best and expecting the best if you worked for him. But if one of his workers or friends fell on hard times, he was the first to give you support and a loan to get you back on your feet.
Harry loved the outdoors and spent years, fishing, hunting target shooting and riding mules. Harry built wagons that his team of mules pulled and he drove with great skill and pleasure. Harry donated his team and wagons to the Ben Ali Mounted Patrol.
Harry was a member of the Yolo Lodge 789, 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Ben Ali Shriners and the Ben Ali Mounted Patrol. Harry had the honor of being the last person to receive his 3rd degree at the Grafton Lodge in Knights Landing before its closing. Harry will be sincerely missed by his fellow Masons.
The family would be honored for you to share in a Celebration of his Life. Come share a tear, a hug and a funny Harry story: Visitation: Thursday March 24 5:00pm-7:00pm, Price Funeral Chapel, 6335 Sunrise Blvd, Citrus Heights CA 95610. I met Harry in 2006 when I bought his chuckwagon and two of his mules. We spoke many times after that whenever I needed a little education as to driving mules and such. While gruff and rough on the outside, I found him to be a very gentle person on the inside, with a heart of gold. I still have his picture on my phone and think of him every time I use the wagon or feed those mules. Vaya con Dios my friend. It was a privilege knowing you.

I met Harry about 20+ yrs ago when my husband at the time started shoeing his mules. We would go to the shop, he would come to us or we would all go to the ranch in rough and ready. No matter where you were, he always had a hugh smile and lots of great stories to tell. We also spent alot of time riding the back country and sitting by the fire. Although I have not seen Harry for some time now, I often think of him. My prayers are with you. May Harry RIP.

I first met Harry when He became a member of the Mounted Patrol. I had the opportunity to be a swamper for him on a number of occasions and helped him cook for some of our functions. He always made you laugh. He will always be in our hearts and thoughts.

I've known and worked for Harry for the past 7 years and he was always good to me and my family. Under that rough exterior and overalls there was a very generous man. He will definitely be missed.
Our sympathies to Ann and the rest of the Culp family.
