BALAND, Howard Ray
Howard was born 10/17/50 at Castle AFB to Allen and Billie Baland. He was the fifth child in a family of six children. Howard died of lung cancer on 03/05/14 at the age of 63. He was preceded in death by his father, sister Shirley and daughter Lindsey. He is survived by his mother; daughter Christina (Jeff) Sherrod; son Jason Snelson (Amber); grandsons Kovin, Campbell and Fischer Sherrod; brothers Richard, Dale, Gary and sister Mary; special people Jo Acosta and Lisa Snelson. Howard graduated from Luther Burbank High School in 1969. He started in the restaurant business at Spitzer's Restaurant while still in school and at one time owned the restaurant in the Swiss Buddha. He has been the head cook at The Stagecoach on Florin Road for the past 40 years. He was diagnosed with both esophageal and lung cancer in September 2012. During treatment his faith in Jesus Christ was rekindled and strengthened by his family and employer, Derek Stevens. We all know Howard is now with his Lord and Savior.

How can it be nine years that Howard left this earth to be with God? Howard was a terrific guy to my daughter Tracy and I. We will never forget him. My thoughts and prayers are with all of Howard's family. REST IN PARADISE HOWARD !!

My thoughts and prayers go to all of the Baland family. Billie, you know you were the most terrific mom to Howard. he loved you more than anything. Howard was the most amazing man to my daughter, Tracy and I. He taught Tracy how to drive in his Chevy Vega. He bought her a beautiful dress for her 8th grade graduation. He was a very kind and generous man. We have so many great memories of him. I am so sorry to hear about his illness and his death. I love the picture with his hat and shirt. That was Howard !!
Always, Kathy Cline and Tracy Gallegos
