Iva Reed Obituary
Iva Louella (Scooter) Reed from Auburn, California was the first woman in the Nation during the mid-80's to advance to the job title of Federal Information Manager, the senior supervisory position at the Federal Information Center in Sacramento. At her retirement party, which was attended by several Congressmen and Federal Judges, among others, she was honored on July 31th, 1986 with a Congressional Salute from the United States 99th Congress for her outstanding performance and exemplary service; signed by Congressman Robert Matsui. She passed away Tuesday, the 6th of September at the age of 81. Iva Reed was born Iva Louella Dickerson in McCrory, Arkansas on December 30, 1929 to Erna and William Pitt Dickerson. She was the youngest child among nine siblings. She married at the tender age of sixteen to Edgar Harold Moore. After having their first little girl, Carolyn, in McCrory, they pulled up roots and transplanted in Los Angeles, where Edgar found steady work and Iva landed a great job as a telephone operator for Ma Bell. And then she had another baby girl, Beverly. While she was barely showing a baby-bump with her third child in 1952, she won Queen for a Day, a famous television contest show at that time. The family moved to Rancho Cordova in 1959, and she later started working as a telephone operator at Mather Air Force Base. She took night classes for years and developed the necessary skills to secure a job as Assistant Federal Information Manager in Sacramento. She was promoted a few years later. She had been an avid and skilled golfer, and after her retirement she volunteered as secretary of the Women's Golf Club at the Lake of the Pines County Club. Iva was the loving mother of three, grandmother of five, and great-grandmother of three; with more on the way. She is survived by her deeply caring husband, Rick Reed; her brothers J.C. and Nookie Dickerson, and sister Winnie Lee McNeely; her three children: Carolyn, Beverly and Michael; her grandchildren: Holly, Autumn, Samantha and Jode; her great-grandchildren: Aubrey, Ryan and Kuxan; and by her life-long friend, Betty. They will all miss her. No memorial service is planned at this time, due to her instruction. But if you wish to contribute to her memory, please send donations to the Bristol Hospice, Roseville.
