Davis, California - James Arthur Callaway Jr, age 86, died of natural causes at his home in Davis, California on September 12, 2021. Jim was born in Sacramento, California on July 27, 1935 and graduated from Sacramento High School. Jim attended and graduated from UC Berkeley and Boalt Hall (UC Berkeley School of Law). He settled in Davis with his wife Anne Callaway to whom he was married for 63 years and together they raised two sons. Jim served as Yolo County Deputy District Attorney for two years in the early 1960s. He then established a successful private practice in Davis including almost ten years as Davis City Attorney from 1964 through 1973 during which time he helped the city launch the founding legislation to establish bike lanes. Jim loved spending time with his family at Lake Tahoe and played various leadership roles in their Tahoe neighborhood association. Jim is survived by Anne; sons Steve Callaway and Scott Callaway; grandchildren Jaimee Callaway, Chris Callaway, Brittney Callaway, and Morgan Callaway; and great-grandchild Rhea Callaway, as well as many other family and friends who will miss his generosity, love, and endless sense of humor. In accordance with Jim's wishes, no public memorial will be held. His family encourages those who knew him to enjoy a few good memories of Jim with hope they will bring you a smile.
