Memories and Condolences
for James SAUM

Not sure what to say?

March 2, 2011

I will always remember Dr. Saum. One of the kindest persons I have ever known. Jim took part in the Alzheimer's Society's support group for several years. He faced Alzheimer's with honesty, an open mind, a fair share of humor, and always with kind, encouraging words to others.

My heartfelt condolences to Sue and the Saum family.

Jim was one of the most important people in my life. I was priviledged to meet him in the spring of 1967 not knowing that he would become my mentor, friend, traveling companion (New England, Oregon, Alaska, Idaho, Dillon Beach, Bodega Bay, San Diago,Yosemite, Silver Lake, etc). I loved him very much and wish his wonderful family the same and symphathy. Love, Larry

Jim was a great colleague and even greater friend. He was always a student advocate and passionate school counselor supporter. He was my mentor when establishing the marriage and family option, particulary helping through the academic process. He was my friend and co-collector of jokes. I shall miss him and loved him very much.

I am very sad to find out that Dr. Saum passed away. He was my first department chair in the College of Education at CSUS (back in 1979). He was so energetic, nice, caring and fun. He was very patient with me as I learned the ins and outs of being a department secretary. I will always have very fond thoughts of him.....Marilyn Ferguson

Jim has been a dear friend of mine for over 40 years. In conferences, workshops or legislative meetings, he always knew more people and knew them by name than anyone else in the room. He was the kindest person I've ever met. Barbara Hoffman (Oak View, CA)

I have fond memories of Jim and wish the best to his family. He was already a professor at CSU when I joined that faculty in 1969
