Janice Darling Obituary

Janice Anne Darling

September 1, 1931 - September 21, 2024

Sacramento, California - Janice Anne Darling (Wright) of Dinuba, CA passed away on Saturday, September 21 at her loving care home in Sacramento, CA. She was 93.

Janice was a caring and doting mother to her three sons Michael Darling (Dana), Eric Darling and Darrell Darling. She dearly loved and enjoyed close relationships with her nine grandchildren, Alfonzo Tucker, Zachary and Kassandra Darling, Eric, Charles and Kathleen Darling, and Sarah, Benjamin and Ruth Darling. Her great-grandchildren brought her immense joy in her later years. She deeply believed that education was of upmost importance, and generously supported her children and grandchildren in their higher education.

Born September 1, 1931 to Joe and Lena Wright of Dinuba, CA, she was the youngest of eight. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings and her beloved husband Jerry. She never stopped speaking daily of her love and admiration for Jerry.

Janice and Jerry moved to Sacramento from Fresno in the 1950's to raise their family and built a beautiful life together. The "Original Feminist" as her family lovingly calls her, Janice became a self- built, savvy businesswoman, owning a successful printing business for years. In her golden years after Jerry's passing, she enjoyed traveling with dear friends from Widowed Persons and spending time with her family.

She worked, oh how she worked. She danced often. She gave and gave. She was the keeper of family stories and histories. Well read, a huge president and history buff. (The family knows much more than we need to about Martin Van Buren.) She loved to dance and travel, cats, the British Monarchy, and the color mauve. She could out-Jitterbug anybody.

She was determined and loyal, not one to gossip, and one of the most reliable people you could ever meet. Overcoming significant childhood hardships, Janice truly believed she was "made better for it". She was forgiving and had faith in the scriptures she listened to at Sunday school as a child. She never missed a Sunday.

She was a proud lifelong Democrat and voter, a military veteran supporter, and MOST tickled about the prospect of a woman President. Janice lived independently in her home until age 90 and was supported by her amazing caregivers in her final years.

A family graveside service will be held at East Lawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Wounded Warriors Project, a charity close to Janice's heart.
