Jarvis Savage Obituary

Jarvis Savage was born September 11, 1946 through the union of Mamie Boyd & George W. Savage in Sacramento, CA, whom preceded him in death. Jarvis was an active child participating in many sports. Baseball was and always has been his first love. It was there as a child in 1958 that he fell in love with the San Francisco Giants as they moved to California. He attended CK McClatchy High School where he participated in track and cross country. He went onto graduate from high school with honors and earned an academic scholarship to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo; where he would join his best friend Lenny Stenhouse. While in school he met Richard Terrell, Ernie Fraiser, and Sheila True. These 5 created a bond that has lasted a life time. Jarvis was a member of the Delta Omicron chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated. After graduating Suma Cum Laude from Cal Poly Jarvis married his high school sweetheart Myra E. Johnson on August 10, 1968. From this union three children were born: Christopher, Jonathan, & Samantha Savage. Jarvis & Myra relocated to Los Angeles where Jarvis took a job with Price Waterhouse. Jarvis obtained his CPA certificate while working at Price Waterhouse. He then went onto work at Bank of Finance as Vice President and Comptroller. After the Bank of Finance he joined GTE. Jarvis worked his way up the corporate ladder; traveled extensively; and moved his family multiple times throughout the country. In his words he was a corporate gypsy. In 1992 the family settled in Grapevine Texas as GTE was bought out by Verizon. It was there, he met his lifelong friend, John Batie. Jarvis then retired from Verizon in 2001. In Jarvis Savage fashion he started working as a chief accountant for a small compounding pharmacy in Dallas Texas where he retired in 2012. As his children and grandchildren participated in youth sports Jarvis coached baseball, basketball and soccer. He kicked the ball around in the backyard, threw baseballs, played pickup basketball and helped with homework. As much as Jarvis loved watching the Raiders on Monday night football or his San Francisco Giants on Sunday night baseball his favorite moments were spent watching his children play sports. He spent many Saturday mornings driving from field to field with soccer bags, basketball shoes and tired children. But, Sundays, they were made for golf (or any other day of the week). Jarvis relished a good game of golf. Once he retired he got to enjoy his favorite pastime with his wife. They were able to play multiple times a week with one another. When Jarvis was not on the course he enjoyed the conspiracies surrounding JFK, biographies, and continually educating himself. He loved knowledge. He enjoyed: Bid Whist, Dominoes, Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit, reading, lively discussions, debate, football and the company of family and friends. He was a sibling, husband, father, grandfather and friend who shared his brilliance, wisdom, strength, courage and compassion with all. He is survived by: loving wife Myra Savage of 46 years, sons Christopher (Elena) Savage, Jonathan (Tiffany) Savage and daughter Samantha Savage of Texas, survived by brother Fredrick (Ruth) Foote, sisters, Juanita Savage Boyd, Joyce Lee of Sacramento, CA., five wonderful grandchildren: Timothy (Brittin) Barton, Whitley Savage, Amy, Anna, and Ava Savage, a great grandchild Carter Barton, family and so many special friends. Services will be held on September 30, 2014 @ 11am at Allen Chapel AME Church, Sacramento, CA 95838

To the family
Jarvis and I ran track together at McClatchy, and I was saddened to read that he had passed. On the other hand, I was happy that he had achieved so much after high school. He was a friend, and person you were happy to see come around a corner at school.

Myra and family, our thoughts and prayers are with you as we realize you have lost someone very precious.

I knew Jarvis for approximately 30 years and thought him to be one of my best friends.

To sum up my knowledge of Jarvis:
He was extremely proud of his family.
He was a true friend in all circumstances.
He was one of the most intelligent guys I have ever met.
He was one of the nicest guys I have ever met.

I better stop as I know he would be embarrassed by kind words.

HE WILL BE MISSED!

Myra and family. Pat and I were deeply saddened by Jarvis' passing. Our prayers are with you, the family, and all his friends. He was a great man who loved is family foremost. I miss the fun we had on the golf courses around the area and at the soccer fields watching our kids practice and play together. I'll also remember the many times we were able to join your family for Sunday dinner. Peace be with you all.

Myra and The Family, our prayers are with you during your time of loss. Jarvis was a wonderful and sweet man, Barron and I enjoyed many conversations with him and the times we spent on the golf course. On Sunday, after church we pulled into the garage and Barron looked at the golf clubs and said, "everytime I see those clubs, I think of Jarvis." May God keep you during this time of grieving. We thank God for the memories we shared and will have those for the rest of our lives. RIP Jarvis...
