Jeanne Burns Obituary

BURNS, JEANNE
Died on September 19, 2002 in Sacramento. Born on January 12, 1924 in Casa, Arkansas to Ralph and Maude McBride. Preceded in death by her husband, John, a former business editor for The Sacramento Bee. A longtime English teacher and department chair at San Juan High School, Jeanne was a graduate of the University of Nevada. Prior to becoming a schoolteacher, she worked as a reporter for the Reno Evening Gazette and was a social worker in Merced. She loved family, literature, nature, travel, and talking politics with like-minded friends. In retirement she found joy in taking classes at CSUS and participating in a writers' group. Jeanne is survived by daughters Cathy Arago (Steve) of Petaluma and Eileen Noel (Clyde) of Fairfield, CT; son Bob Burns (Dana) of Sacramento; and grandchildren Marie, Erin, Adam, Eric, Hanna, Julian, Alison, Ryan, and Kristen. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 9:00 AM at Trinity Cathedral, 2620 Capitol Ave., Sacramento. The family asks that any memorials be made to the San Juan Faculty Association, Jeanne Burns Scholarship Fund, 7551 Greenback Lane, Citrus Heights, CA 95610.
