Citrus Heights, California - John F. Handley, born January 15, 1946, in Los Angeles, California, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2025. His remarkable life was marked by diverse achievements and a deep commitment to serving others.
John's journey began early, as a child actor at the tender age of four, becoming a member of the original cast of the Mickey Mouse Club. His talents and drive propelled him through many chapters of an extraordinary life.
He answered the call to service, attending the Naval School of Music and subsequently serving three tours in Vietnam as a Navy S.E.A.L. His courage and resilience were evident in his capture and subsequent escape, earning him numerous accolades, including the Bronze Star, two Purple Hearts, and the Silver Star.
Upon returning to civilian life, John continued to serve his community, first as a member of the Los Angeles Police Department and later as a paramedic. He then transitioned into the world of finance, managing a finance company, followed by a successful period as a salesman. He also owned and operated Harmony House, an organ and piano store in Hawaii, sharing his love of music with others. Later, he served as a division manager for the NFIB and as a lobbyist for the California Independent Grocers Association (CIGA) before his retirement.
John's passion for music remained a constant throughout his life. He was a headline entertainer in Waikiki, captivating audiences with his performances in Hawaii, California, Mexico, and Canada. In his later years, he found joy and purpose in his church, joining the choir and eventually becoming its director.
John was a man of many talents and an even greater heart. He touched countless lives through his diverse endeavors, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Christine; his son, Wayne Handley, his wife Meagan; his cherished grandchildren, Madison, Faith, and Ross; his brother Larry Spicer and wife Anne; his brother-in-law Joseph La Point and wife Lisa, his mother in law Kikuko La Point, his nieces Kaitlin LaPoint and C. J. Spinner and his nephews Brennan and Branden Spicer, Adam LaPoint and Guy Maiden..
Memorial service will be held on April 13, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, located at 109 Washington Blvd, Roseville, CA 95678. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church. Internment will take place on April 14, 2025, at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he enriched.
