John William Pressly

PRESSLY, John William
A resident of Forest Grove, OR for the past 5 years, passed away 1/14/07 at the age of 97. Born 9/25/09 in Beaver City, NE. He was raised in Omaha, NE. Received his bachelors from Hastings College and was a graduate of Princeton Theological Seminary. He was ordained a Presbyterian minister in 1938 by his father who was also a Presbyterian minister. He was the senior pastor of numerous large congregations and served as a minister for over 50 years at churches in Grandview, WA, Vancouver, WA, Great Falls, MT, Sacramento, CA, Salem, OR, and a number of interim ministries. He worked with the Vanport Flood Victims in 1948 while he was a pastor in Vancouver. He received an honorary doctorate from Lewis & Clark College in Portland to honor his work. He was an early advocate of Ecumenical Ministries and The Council of Churches. He was a member of Kiwanis & Lions Club while in Sacramento. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Ambler in 2005. He is survived by his sons, William Pressly and Robert Pressly, both of North Plains, OR, daughter, Katharine "Kit" Frisinger of Eugene, OR, 5 grandchildren, Bobbea Small, Barton Pressly, Brandon Pressly, Janet Range and Carolyn Range, and 6 great-grandchildren, Christopher Small, Jessica Small, Kaia Range, Nigel Swehla, Jonathan Snagg and Carsyn Snagg. A funeral will be held at 10am on Monday, 1/22/07 at Tualatin Plains Presbyterian Church "Scotch Church" in Hillsboro. Interment Scotch Church Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to Tualatin Plains Presbyterian Church or Old Scotch Church.
