Sacramento, California - John Anthony Winkel passed away on March 24, 2022 after a short battle with cancer.
John was born in Mamaroneck, New York in 1942. He attended Bucknell University and proudly served his country for eight years in the United States Marine Corps.
He is survived by his wife Sharon, seven children, thirteen grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and two sisters. He was known by a number of names: Wink, Juanito Bonito, Mauna Lani Johnny, Grandaddy, Duck, and, of course, Dad.
John ran KRAK Radio in Sacramento for many years and was co-owner of Skyhawk Communications and Skyhawk Outdoor Advertising. He was a fixture at Del Paso Country Club, where he was a member for 31 years. He loved his family, his country, his friends, golf, flying, basking in the sun, and patriotic shirts. John never met a stranger and was known for his big personality, fierce loyalty, and generous heart.
John requested no memorial service but instead asked those who knew him to remember him while doing something they love. The family requests no flowers or food please. If you would like to remember him in another way, please make a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project, First Tee - Greater Sacramento, or a charity of your choice. Semper Fidelis!

I will forever remember John as a boss who´s door was always open to me. His strong, but fair leadership style propelled our radio station into a broadcasting giant. Behind his tough Marine Corp image, lay a man with a heart of gold. Rest In Peace my friend.
