Joshua Frank French Smith

Joshua Smith Obituary

SMITH, Joshua Frank French
First son of Julie Ann Gibbons and Frank French Smith II. Born August 19, 1987. Died Father's Day, June 17, 2007. So very much loved by Mom and Dad plus all his family, especially his "Lil Bro" Caleb, his grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins and all his other earthly parents who have contributed heavily to Josh's nurturing and care. Thank you for all your help! Joshua was an excellent student at Cordova High School who always strived to be the very best. He was a junior class president and played baseball at the J.V. level. Other sports Josh enjoyed included basketball, tennis, and rugby. He loved to participate in student government and served as an attorney in C.H.S. Academy of Justice Peer Court. Josh graduated from C.H.S. in 2005 and studied biomedical engineering at UC Riverside. Among his other abilities Josh was an excellent artist. At an early age he had the ability to freehand copy drawings and pictures - upscale or downscale, all without the use of measuring devices or scaling paper. Joshua loved his music, and much like his mother, loved to sing - he had a beautiful voice. Anyone that knew Josh well also knew that he was an expert video games player. He solved all of the Nintendo Zelda quests & most recently was a "Halo" fanatic. Most importantly, if asked, Josh would profess his belief in God and love for Jesus. It is because of his profession, and by his claim to faith, that Josh's soul rests in the holy and loving presence of God. All are invited to attend visitation Thursday, June 21, 2007 from 4-8pm at Miller Funeral Home, 507 Scott Street, Folsom, 916-985-2295. A memorial service will be held Friday, June 22 at 3pm, Sun River Church, 11223 Trinity River Drive, Rancho Cordova with a reception to follow. Private interment.

Dear Frank and Caleb,
We were shocked and saddened to receive the news about Josh. While we watched Caleb, with his witty personality and Nick play ball together, we just recently got an opportunity to get to know older son and big brother, Josh. He is such a great kid! We looked forward to catching up on his life whenever we were in Outback and we were fortunate to be able to do just that in early June. Please know our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Frank,
We were so saddened by your loss. We know that you would do anything for your boys. Josh sure loved playing ball and hanging with his brothers! Josh was well loved by his friends and his family.

Frank and Caleb:

We just received the most unbelievable news about Josh. We visited with him so many times while at Outback (as soon as this month). He was always upbeat and full of laughter. We of course would talk baseball. Frank and Caleb, our thoughts and prayers are with both of you during this time.

My church and i are praying for your family. Josh will be greatly missed by so many people. I know that he did love the Lord as we have had several conversations about it while he was in school. I know Josh had a lot of friends and he planted some good seeds in their lives.

Josh is my freind and I will miss him a lot. He taught me how to catch and how to bat a baseball. I really love him a lot. I'm sorry Frank and Grandma Kathy that this happened. I know that Josh is with Jesus and he's probably getting to play baseball too. That's cool. I love you!

Frank, Caleb, Kathy, Kara and Brianna,
You all know we love you so much and our hearts are breaking with the loss of Josh. He will forver be alive in our hearts and on our baseball fields! My heart smiles when I remember both Josh and Caleb out front teaching Bryce how to catch a baseball. Throw after throw Bry would miss and the boys would tirelessly keep tossing it to him. Bryce just completed his 4th season as catcher for his little league team! Thanks guys your patience paid off! We will miss you Josh!!
All our love,

Frank and Caleb: I am deeply saddened by the loss of Josh. I am praying for you both. As a teacher, I would see Josh and wish I could have a Josh in every class. He was a wonderful young man and I am grateful for the times when he would come down to CHS and hang out at the tennis courts. He will be greatly missed. God Bless you both.

Caleb,
Other than knowing Josh is now w/ Jesus, at peace, and truly happy, there is nothing that can be said to comfort you. I'm so sorry for what you are going through. My heart is so heavy for you. ( I lost my big brother when I was 14, so I know somewhat how you're feeling.)
Please call me. I would like to offer whatever assistance I can at this time.

This is just all so surreal to me. Josh was 4 when he came into my life. Although we are not siblings by blood, we are siblings by LOVE. Josh, your smile, your laugh, your humor...all will be missed.

Just when I think I can't cry anymore, I do. Just when I think I'm not angry anymore, I am. Just when I think I'll be ok, I'm not. Just when I think this is a dream, I'm reminded it's reality.

I know you are in heaven with your Papa and you will be watching over us all. I love you and will keep your memory alive.

I was completely saddened to hear the news of Josh. He was always the care-free guy in many of my classes who was ALWAYS smiling, and that is how I will remember him. My heart goes out to his family and all who had an opportunity to know him.

Frank & Caleb,

I was so deeply saddened to hear of your loss. Josh truly was on the right path and someone who I held up in high regard that if you put your mind to it, you could make something of yourself. I can still picture his beautiful eyes and I have fond memories of a teen who was not ashamed to sit on his father's lap and just sit and talk. I can not imagine how you must be feeling at this moment, but please be sure that you all are in my thoughts and prayers. I always pictured Josh as the person who when he attended his 25th class reunion -- it would be with a beautiful wife, lovely children, and an awesome career. I am truly sorry for your loss.

Sincerely,

The Niklas Family
