Carmichael, California - Katherine Marie Chiodo passed away on July 23, 2021, at the age of 97. She is joining her husband of 64 years, Ernest Chiodo, and her Lord Jesus Christ.
Born on May 29, 1924, in West Virginia, she was one of three children. She is survived by her daughters Dorothy and Donna, and her son Joe. Katherine also has seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She was the matriarch of our Italian Chiodo family.
Katherine's favorite song was "Your Nobody 'Till Somebody Loves You". She loved big band music and she and her husband, Ernie, loved to dance. She was a great cook who loved to feed everyone, including family, friends, and neighbors. One of her guilty pleasures was bread and jam. Her favorite pastime was watching the game show channel and beauty pageants. Another highlight for her was shopping for sales and bargains.
Katherine was deeply religious and said the rosary daily. She was tireless, with an abundance of energy and loved to stay busy. She was extremely proud of her family and loved to brag about her children. Katherine loved colorful clothing and jewelry and was considered our fashion diva.
In the most recent years of her life, Katherine cherished being with her best friend Art Serrano. Her children and her devoted granddaughter, Sherry, were fortunate to live close to her and be part of her daily life. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend who will be greatly missed. A private burial and will be held. I was Mrs Chiodo's Internist at Kaiser for decades before my retirement. Seeing her was always a highlight of my day. A special lady.

Nani was our Rockstar and I will miss her dearly, think of her with sweetness and a smile, feel the bond of family she so effortlessly taught us, and always celebrate her with extra jam on my toast, just the way she would want it :)

I remember: The scintillating aroma of bubbling sauces that wafted through the house and neighborhood on Valmonte Drive. The deft and nimble skill with which Kay and Nona, and a 24" square board with lands and furrows, could turn ordinary dough into the extraordinary delicacy known as gnocchi. I remember: Mmmmmm, the delectable tender stringy meat that Kay informed me was --- goat. I remember Kay's warmth, smile, and welcoming disposition when she invited me to live in her house for those wonderful months in 1969-70. That was a magical and memorable time. I shared a bedroom with my "brother" Joe. I learned to play pinochle and drink Christian Brothers and ginger ale from Dort. And... I experienced the tingle and awkward excitement of first love with Donna --- my lifelong friend. I remember the tenderness, goodness, and familial comradery that permeated that household and every event it hosted. I know Kay has ascended to Paradise with the wings of an angel because she earned those wings being an angel through her life on Earth. Those wings have now carried Kay into the anticipating embrace of her true love and partner, Ernie. The two of them will waltz (and cha cha, swing, samba, fox trot, and jitter-bug) through the halls of Heaven -- step aside Fred and Ginger -- there's a new dance team in Paradise! Kay, your earthly friends will miss you and your Heavenly friends will cherish you. So Kay, "party in peace" (you never could rest) for eternity. I will always remember your beauty, goodness, and generosity.

She will always be remembered in our hearts. Have such fond memories of her in my younger days when I used to go up to my grandparents in Castilla. God bless her!
