Kevin Crossland Obituary

CROSSLAND, Kevin Kevin Crossland was born January 29,1951 in San Francisco. His parents, Rita and Archie Crossland later settled in the Land Park area of Sacramento. Archie was an owner of Bonney and Gordon where Kevin often worked growing up. Kevin graduated from Christian Brothers High School. He competed in downhill ski racing and was chosen to be on the Olympic Hopeful team but injury prevented him from going to the Olympics. He then attended Menlo School and later graduated from Cal. While at Cal he belonged to the Beta house, played rugby, and coached the Cal ski team. Kevin remained the most avid of Cal supporters. He fundraised, mentored football players, attended football games, and befriended everyone he met along the way. There was a Cal sticker on every vehicle he owned and a well-stocked Cal "shrine" full of mementos and photos that filled his office. After college Kevin worked in the clothing industry and later became a financial advisor. He married and started a family. His daughter, Emily, and son, Ryan were always near and dear to his heart. He loved his children. Kevin touched people everywhere he went. His love for people was genuine. He gave so freely of himself. Kevin was sober for 32 years and remained active in the recovery community by serving on boards, sponsoring other recovering alcoholics, and reaching out to families in need. He loved playing tennis and helped to bring Napa its first professional tennis tournament. He also loved duck hunting and belonged to several clubs in the valley. He was recently elected to sit on the California Waterfowl Association board working in fundraising and habitat improvement. Kevin passed away suddenly on January 26, 2015 at his home in Napa. He is survived by his daughter, Emily Schroeder (Todd Schroeder), son, Ryan Crossland, step children, Nick (Kate), Jack, Anika, and Kellen Chasuk, and wife Francesca Kirkpatrick. Kevin is deeply missed by friends too numerous to count. Celebration of Kevin's life will held on Wednesday Feb. 4 at 11am at St. Apollinaris Church, 3700 Lassen St., Napa, CA. Reception to follow at Napa Valley Country Club. In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation to one of Kevin's favorite things: California Waterfowl Association, 1346 Blue Oaks Blvd., Roseville, CA 95648 or Cal Athletic Development, 195 Haas Pavilion, Berkeley, CA 94720.

Kev was one in a million! He was so fun to be around, he could make an event out of going to the hardware store. He shared his love ,f people at the very opportunity! Like his beloved " Bopps" he literally emitted good vibrations. For 45 yrs he was a funny, loyal, and devoted friend. Kevin gave freely of himself to anyone who needed help. His sense of humor was outrageous and he found things to laugh about everywhere. Like most truly great men. He was the primary target of his own laughter. All of us who knew him feel cheated, deprived and outraged that this delightful bear of a man left us 30 years too soon. Kevin will live in our hearts and minds forever. His wisdom, charity and genuine goodness will endure and remind us of a life spent in putting other's first. Adios, amigo. This is indeed a shock, and reminds us all how fragile life is...Kevin was a great childhood friend of mine and my sisters. we lived 4 houses apart in Land Park...I left Sacramento in the mid 80's and lived in San Francisco and the last 16 years in Scottsdale. Altho I haven't seen Kevin in years, his legacy and infectious 'gravely' voice will forever be a memory of mine. Cleary after his sobriety, Kevin made quite an impression on those around him. I personally loved his parents dearly and his sister Colleen... our best wishes to his family and Kevin will be missed...

We lived together in the Beta house, worked at Hastings men's clothing store together and duck hunted together. We talked every week.
There's a huge void in my heart and soul. RIP, my brother.

My sincere condolences to the Crossland family. I have fond memories growing up with "Sissy" and Kevin. Kevin was my first date when I was 15, when he took me to see a Warren Miller Ski film at Memorial Auditorium. Many good ski days too! I know he will be deeply missed by all who had the good fortune to know him.
