Kevin Gilhooly Obituary

GILHOOLY, Kevin Anthony
Born Nov. 19, 1959, and passed away on September 23, 2006, after a courageous battle with cancer. Kevin leaves behind his daughter Elizabeth Marie Gilhooly, his "babydoll" and the light of his life, and his wife Margaret "Meg" Gilhooly, both of Sacramento. He is also survived by his loving family: parents Thomas R. and Marie Gilhooly from La Habra, Calif.; and sisters Patricia Gilhooly of Trabuco Canyon, Eileen Gilhooly of San Francisco and Mary Kathleen Gilhooly of Denver, Colo. Kevin was loved by his aunts Julia Collins of New York and Kathleen Liss of Connecticut and all of the extended families, as well as his lifelong friends. A loyal and respected employee of Wells Fargo for 19 years, Kevin will be missed by his business colleagues and customers. Kevin spent many happy hours working with his customers but loved getting away to ski, golf and take extensive backpacking trips around the world to exotic locations such as Costa Rica, Turkey, and Thailand. An active member of the WIND board, Kevin believed in giving back to the community. Friends and family are welcome at both the visitation on Tuesday evening, Sept. 26, at 7:00 PM at Our Lady of Assumption Church, 5057 Cottage Way, Carmichael, and funeral Mass at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, Sept. 27, at Our Lady of Assumption. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Kevin's memory to UC Davis Cancer Center Health Sciences Advancement, 4900 Broadway, Suite 1150, Sacramento, CA 95820; Sutter Medical Foundation, please designate, "The Sharing Place," 2800 L Street, Sacramento, CA; WIND Youth Services, Hope for Homeless Teens, P.O. It is by the people who have loved us that we are remembered. Even though I did not know Kevin,
from listening to his wife, I know he was loved. My thoughts and prayers are with Kevin's family and friends.

I am a friend of Kevin's youngest sister, Mary Kay. I've known Kevin through the family for almost 30 years. He was a courageous and gentle soul...his battle was a testament to him and his love for his daughter, Elizabeth. He will be sadly missed. Love to all of the Gilhoolys.

I am a friend of Kevin's wife Meg. I learned from her what a courageous battle he put up against the long journey of his illness. Also, what a loving father he was to his precious Elizabeth. I know he was deeply loved and will be missed by many.

Truly the world will be a lesser place with the loss of Kevin. As he was a champion of honesty, fairness, integrity and the desire to help people, the void he has left in the hearts that he has touched will remain for a long time. The goodness in Kevin’s heart was equaled to his love for life and I am sure that he would want all to mourn for just a little bit, and then renew your own commitment to life and God and the people closest to you.
Kevin was not only my best friend but the best friend of many.

I went to high school with Kevin, although I had known him through neighbors since I was in elementary school. Kevin was a nice friend and it was a privilege to know him. May God bless you and comfort you during this time.

I am a friend of Kevin's wife, Meg, and have never met him. I only know what she has shared about him. It sounds to me like I missed out on knowing a wonderful, wonderful man. My thoughts and prayers are with all his family and friends.
