Madelyn Lindsay Obituary

Madelyn Lindsay
March 28, 1937 - November 27, 2021
Sacramento, California - Madelyn Lindsay 84 of Sacramento, passed away on November 27, 2021. (Affectionately known as Maddy) Maddy was born in Heber City, Utah on March 28, 1937, she was the 6th child born to Ray and Grace Lindsay.
Maddy was a wonderful gregarious, fun-loving character, she was a person that could be serious when necessary but would rather be laughing and joking. She made the world that much better by being in it. She loved her friends and family and her kitty cats. She lived her life to its fullest and enjoyed herself. Her best friend and partner was Lorraine Dutra. They were together for 47 years. They were usually having fun playing golf, bowling, cards, or traveling. Maddy liked participating in sports. Maddy was a member of the Lake Oswego Mermaids in Oregon, a softball team. She also was an avid bowler. One night after leaving the bowling alley she and her girlfriend were accosted by a 19-year-old man. He held a knife next to her side and he told her friend Jan, to tie Maddy up. Instead, Jan started driving the car and Maddy slammed the door on the assailant's leg at the same time and they dragged him around the parking lot until he fell free. He then ran to a gas station nearby and the police arrested him there. I think by then he was relieved. Maddy always could trusted to perform the work that was asked of her. The companies she had for the longest time were Aerojet and the Sacramento Police Department. One of her jobs at the police department was acting as a 911 operator. She retired from the Police Department on July 2, 2002. She received a Certificate of Appreciation on behalf of the Sacramento City Council in the year 2000 for her work in the police department updating the computers. This was not the only commendation Maddy had received from a police department. When Maddy was 12 she was a Woodmere School Safety Patrol Girl, it was called the Junior Patrol. She was helping smaller children across the street with 2 other patrol girls when a herd of 29 loose horses ran into the street stopping traffic. Later it was learned that they escaped from riding academy nearby. The 3 girls including Madelyn grabbed the 20 children and put them over a short fence into a private property for safety. None of the children were hurt. She earned a Special citation for a Merit award Metal Certificate from the Woodmere School Superintendent. She also received letters from the Traffic Safety Commission for Portland and was awarded a Merit Certificate from them. She also had letters sent to her from the Principal of Woodmere School, and the City of Portland Bureau of Police, the Traffic and Transportation Commission commending her for her fine work.
Maddy is survived by her brother Duane Lindsay and his wife Shirley Lindsay, and very many nephews and nieces.
Maddy's celebration of life will be held at the Lions Club on January 22, 2022 1pm at 107 Sutter Ave, Roseville, CA 95678. In Liew of flowers you may donate to the Lions Club PO Box 806, Roseville, CA 95678

My dear Aunt, about whom I have many memories from my youth. She saved my brother and I from a house fire.

My sincere condolences to Madelyn's many friends and family. We were just notified by a friend. Maddy has been a friend since about 1971 and I worked with her at Sacramento Police Dept until Chuck and I retired in 1994 and moved to NC. We have stayed in touch all these years and considered her a very dear friend and will miss our annual phone chats.
With deep sympathy and much love, ~Linda

I will always remember my dear Aunt. She was my babysitter in early years, saved me from a fire, introduced me to baseball at age 7 and was there for me in many situations throughout my youth. Tough on the outside but a good hearted lady. I am so glad she was in my life.

This truly breaks our hearts to know that Maddy is no longer with us. Maddy and my grandmother (Rose) use to bowl and golf together among other things. It was my grandma that introduced us to her and we rented the other half of her duplex. We spent 7 years living next to Maddy and have some of the most fantastic memories being there living next to her and Lorraine. Our condolences to the family. This world will never be the same. we are blessed for having to been able to share a small piece of this life with out. You are very much loved and missed.
