Mark Willstatter Obituary

Mark Willstatter

July 31, 1955 - December 11, 2024

Lacey, Washington - With his wife Paula, sisters Karen and Nancy, and best mates at his side, Mark, a world traveler, began the next great journey too early due to Parkinson's. The first child of Kathryn and Herbert Willstatter, Mark grew up in Orangevale, California, attended Bella Vista High School in Fair Oaks, graduated with a master's in electrical engineering from Stanford and had a career in disk drive development in Silicon Valley. Mark and Paula (née Shugart) started their life partnership in 1981, later marrying on Lake Tahoe. They worked toward their early retirements to explore the world together.

Mark approached life with humor, gentleness, and an analytical mind. Always curious, he explored a wide range of interests in his life. Retiring to join Paula in Europe, Mark studied at the Cordon Bleu in London. Living on Whidbey Island for almost 18 years, Mark was a Master Gardener, watercolorist, photographer, friend, great baker, hiker and wine enthusiast. Mark found joy in and on the water; from swimming and playing water polo to dragon boat racing and sailing. Mark has left us - his family and friends - with a lifetime of good memories. We miss him.

A celebration of Mark's life will be held in Orangevale on Saturday, April 19. Contact [email protected] for details.
