"Big Mike" passed away at his home in Meadow Vista, California on September 17, 2022 at the age of 76. He was born August 19, 1946, in Atascadero, CA.
Mike is survived by his partner, Shirley Smith, his former spouse, Elizabeth Geiger, his five children, Renee (Mark) Nowicki; Michael (Shannon) Mahoney; Wendy Heather (Marcus) Lerman; Shannon (John) Brown; and Matthew (Victoria) Mahoney; along with eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren and another on the way. His love endures in each of them.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Robert Mahoney and Betty Langston Gabel, and older sister, Patricia Lahn.
Mike met his first wife, Elizabeth, in the third grade at St. John of God School in Norwalk. They were married for 20 years and had five children.
He was a proud veteran of the United States Army and trained to be a medic. In 1976 he moved his family to Sacramento, CA, where he continued his career in the automotive industry.
After retirement, Mike traveled the world with his "Sweetheart" Shirley. He also was a proud member of the American Legion Riders and gave to many charities, including the Salvation Army and St. Jude's.
He beat incredible odds and was a six-year survivor of pancreatic cancer.
His friends and family will remember Mike's loving and gregarious nature, fierce loyalty, contagious belly laugh, and huge bear hugs. He was forever a fan of Notre Dame football and the LA Rams.
Mike was a man of faith and drew strength from his love for Jesus his entire life.
Funeral services will be held at a later date.
