Morrell Wise Obituary

WISE, Morrell ''Morry'' May 25, 1948 to October 4, 2014 Morry was born and raised in Sacramento, where he met, married, and was a loving husband to Sharon for 44 years. He was a devoted and adoring father to Matthew and father-in-law to Jocelyn. After honorable discharge from the U.S. Army, Morry studied and earned a degree in Fine Art from UC Davis and Sacramento State. Following a long career as art director at the Sacramento Union and Sacramento Bee newspapers, he returned to school and then worked at the CA Department of Transportation. Morry was a talented artist, musician, teacher, and book author with a deep love of the outdoors. He is remembered by all for his gentle nature, wonderful sense of humor, incredible kindness, natural creativity, and integrity - but most of all, his love of family. He passed away surrounded by family on October 4 from acute leukemia. He was the beloved son of Robert and Karma and younger brother to Bob. He is also survived by sister-in-law Mercedes, mother-in-law Delane, and nieces and nephews Michael, Rebeca, and Sean. We will miss him dearly. A memorial service honoring our dear Morry will be held on Saturday, October 11 at 9:30 am at the Crocker Art Museum Setzer Auditorium, 216 O Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may made to the Morrell Wise Graphic Arts Scholarship Fund at Wells Fargo Bank, 7225 Fair Oaks Blvd, Carmichael, CA 95608, Account# 2920078835 or the Shriners Hospital for Children - Northern CA.

On the wall midst many pictures

Hangs a simple group of three,

Portrait Speaking Truth and Beauty,

Child head pure and sunlit sea.

Tread here softly oh my brother.

Bow the head and speak ye low,

See ye not the sombre ribbon,

Sorrow's emblem, tied below?

Stilled the hand that held the brushes,

Closed the mortal eye that saw

Tender tones and pearley colour,

Taught us Beauty, Ever held he

That the Truth alone can live,

Steadfast, worked in quite greatness,

Gave the best he had to give.

Hear the people murmur sadly,

“He is pone - the race is run,

Fame had he, and honour, glory –

He is dead, his work is done.”

Hold your heads more proudly, brothers,

Truth eternal never dies!

God's idea and Gods reflection

Lives for aye, in earth and skies

And the mind that saw the vision

Dream'd the Dream, and heard the call,

Lives and Loves, and works forever,

God and Truth, the all in all.
