Nancy Drewek Obituary
February 22, 1949 - June 6, 2025
Orangevale, California - Nancy Drewek passed away peacefully on June 6, 2025 in the loving presence of family. She was the daughter of Beth and Jim; sister of Ken; cousin of Jan, Jerry, Susan, Jack, Tom, Marcia, and Cindy. She is survived by husband of nearly 55 years Mark, daughters Jen and Emily, and grandsons Charles and Tommy.
At Cordova High School Nancy served as the Lancers' mascot; in Rainbow Girls she served as Worthy Advisor. At San Jose State she found lifelong bonded friendships with her college roommates, met her husband Mark, and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Recreation. She began her career with the City of San Jose Parks and Recreation Department, was their first woman groundskeeper and went on to serve as Neighborhood Recreation Supervisor and coordinator of the city's women's sports program.
An active parent, Nancy led Girl Scout Troop 72, was president of the Lynhaven Elementary Home and School Club, and worked as Director of the Extended School Day program. After relocating from San Jose to Sacramento County, Nancy taught 5th grade at Orangevale Open Elementary until her retirement from San Juan Unified School District in 2006.
In retirement, Nancy volunteered for Christmas Promise and Petal Connection. She operated her small business as Nancy's Flowers, providing floral arrangements for weddings and special occasions. Nancy enjoyed traveling across the United States and Europe with family and friends. She was active in art classes and creative writing workshops.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the charity of your choice. Nancy was a contributor to many organizations, including Habitat for Humanity, Planned Parenthood, Sierra Club, Public Broadcasting, American Civil Liberties Union, Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, and Orangevale-Fair Oaks Food Bank.

Nancy was my fifth grade teacher in the 90's. In retrospect, her classroom was formative. Other kids often warned that she was "the" strict teacher, but when I think back on elementary school, her lessons and field trips are some of the ones that stick with me the most. I am sorry to hear of her passing and reading her obit makes me wish I'd gotten to know her as an adult.
