Nick Duncan Obituary

Nick passed away at the young age of 35 peacefully at home on December 13th. Born December 6, 1978, Nick is survived by his loving wife Kiley, stepson Gavin, father Bill Duncan, stepmother Chi Duncan, brother Josh Duncan, stepfather Mike Cooper, beloved grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Nick is preceded in death by his mother Michaella, as well as dear friends Michelle Montoya, Clint Webber, and Army brother Mike Bruzgis. Nick also leaves behind countless friends who will forever hold his memory in their hearts. Despite receiving a football scholarship at Oregon State, Nick enlisted in the US Army and quickly became an 82nd Airborne Soldier. After the Army he became a Correctional Officer in both Idaho and Texas. Nick is a two time cancer survivor, a leg amputee, and a hero to all that knew him. Nick leaves a legacy of positivity and paying it forward. His favorite saying was "Adapt and Overcome." That he did! Knowing life is short, he made the best of every moment.His death will forever leave a void in the lives of all that knew and loved him. Services will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 11:00 am First Baptist Church of Rio Linda located at 7008 10th Street, Rio Linda, Ca 95673 reception following at 1:00 pm at the Rio Linda American Legion Post 521 located at 6700 8th Street, Rio Linda Ca. I was in shock to hear of his passing, I met Nick when he first got back to Cali from Texas and directed him to my office for his prosthetic needs. what a positive guy and amazing spirit he had. Seeing him was always a great feeling. such a life force he will be surely missed by all he came in contact with and what an impression he left on us here at Anchor Orthotics and Prosthetics.

Nick some of my best memories from my HS years involved you and that charisma you could only present. You loved everyone and were always there for anyone who needed a shoulder. PLEASE HELP COVER THE COST OF FUNERAL SERVICES FOR MY PAL! What better way to thank God for all that we have than to give to those in need? PLEASE go to this link and donate to help my friend Kiley Duncan and her son Gavin. We are helping to raise funds to cover the cost of the funeral services for my pal, Nick Duncan. Nick just passed away on December 13, 2013, at the very young age of 35. He was a very proud Army Airborne veteran and endured health issues that were combat related such as two bouts of cancer, one of which caused Nick to loose one of his legs, and episodes of heart disease that are believed to have been directly linked to what took his life at such a young age. As the VA has not yet recognized this as being combat related, currently, Kiley and Gavin will not be receiving any benefits and that includes assistance with Nick's funeral arrangements. PLEASE donate! Any amount is greatly appreciated and any funds raised beyond the cost of the services will be available to Kiley and Gavin for their future.
