Paul Bruce Berez
June 29, 1952 - February 17, 2024
Crofton, Maryland - Dr. Paul Bruce Berez, a devoted husband, cherished father, and esteemed Internal Medicine physician, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2024 at the age of 71.
He leaves behind his loving wife Dr. Julie Omole, daughters Dr. Chantal Berez (Matt) and Claude Bereznikov, grandchildren Neptune and Nikolai, brother Peter Berez (Kathy), and his practice nurse Shantae Brown. He was preceded in death by his father Dr. Joseph S. Berez, his mother Ray L. Berez and first wife Dr. Jane Daniel Berez.
Born on June 29, 1952 in Los Angeles, Ca., Dr. Berez grew up in the Sacramento, Ca. area and attended Rio Americano High School and Sacramento State University before studying medicine at George Washington University in Washington D C. He did his residency at Prince George's County Hospital in Maryland, worked for various institutions in that area and decided to settle in the Annapolis/Crofton Maryland area where he established a private practice with his first wife and left an indelible mark on the communities he served.
Throughout his life, Dr. Berez exemplified dedication and passion in his profession as an Internal Medicine/Primary Care physician with specialized knowledge of diabetes care as published in New England Journal of Medicine.
Beyond his career accomplishments, Dr. Berez's greatest joy stemmed from his role as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His unwavering love, guidance, and support enriched the lives of his family members, his extended family, and his many patients, leaving them with cherished memories and profound gratitude.
He enjoyed classical music, travel, singing, piano and adored The Three Stooges and The Little Rascals. Dr. Berez has sailed on many seas and traveled to numerous destinations around the globe but his favorite passion in life was medicine. He loved caring for his patients and worked up to the day he suddenly took ill. His wife Dr. Julie Omole and his daughter Dr. Chantal Berez had vigils at his bedside until the end.
In the last few days of his life, Dr. Berez was cared for by the physicians and nurses at the Medstar Washington Hospital Center.
Dr. Berez will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 1370 Defense Hwy, Gambrills, MD 21054 from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday April 13, 2024.
