Paul Hurlock Obituary


HURLOCK, Paul W.
Paul W. Hurlock passed away on Friday, January 25, 2008, at Kaiser Hospital in Sacramento after a long, productive, and happy life. Paul William Hurlock was born in Baltimore, Md., on May 19, 1922, (or 1917). He served in the U.S. Army (1941-45). Paul married Joan Lucy Tunnicliffe, a Johns Hopkins graduate, on January 1, 1953. They resided in Maryland, Connecticut, Colorado, Canada, and Sacramento, Calif. Paul and Joan were happily married for 55 years. Their four children are Carol J. Hurlock and Grant A. Hurlock of Sacramento, and Janet H. Smith and John P. Hurlock of Missouri. Paul is survived by his wife and children, his daughter-in-law Shari L. Hurlock, his son-in-law W. John Smith, and nine grandchildren. They are: Cameron W. Smith, Benjamin J. Smith, Cimarron K. Smith, Andrew P. Smith, Robin L. Smith, Ryan J. Hurlock, Kathleen (Kiki) J. Hurlock, and Elena V. Hurlock, all of Missouri, and Ava X. Hurlock of Sacramento. Paul also has a brother, William Albert Hurlock, Jr., and sister-in-law, Blanche M. Hurlock, in Carroll County, Md. Throughout his life, Paul maintained an enthusiasm for nature. He had a very green thumb and enjoyed working outdoors. In Sacramento, Paul enjoyed watching PBS shows like Californias Gold, going to the State Fair and various local parks, and attending the Music Circus. Although Paul has had to cope with a series of illnesses in recent years, he still enjoyed traveling, especially to the Coast. Paul was a good man who will be profoundly missed by his family and friends. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Effie Yeaw Nature Center of Carmichael at (916) 489-4918.
