I knew Paul from around 1975-1977. We were part of a small circle of philosopher jokester artists, in and out of college, in Sacramento.
Very few people in my life have shared thoughts that I felt opened my eyes a little more than I'd been able to on my own. VERY few.
I will *always* remember Paul's comment that the human imagination is man's most divine part, since it is the part that creates.
I have not seen, nor spoken, to Paul since I left Sacramento in 1977 and I'd always hoped to connect with him again and let him know that his comment has stuck with me all these years.
So did another comment, pointing out the weak left hand of a piano player I'd been fancying. He assisted me in listening with discernment, too, which is also a rare event in my life.
I felt bereft when I saw Paul's obituary, despite the depth of years.
I'll *never* forget him.

Paul--I hardly knew you. But your spirit was so beautiful that I know your light will continue to shine, just in a different place.

Paul will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was a warrior spirit and philosopher extraordinaire. He was my brother in every way except blood. I know he smiles on us now.

My sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Paul --- he was a gentle, kind spirit with an enthusiasm for dancing, telling a good story, sharing ideas or pondering philosophically. I first met Paul in Portland, OR in the 80's---dancing with friends and our friendship continued here in Sacramento. I'm sorry we lost touch sometime in the last decade...but I can still hear his voice, his laugh & see him on the dance floor...
My thoughts are with those who were closest to him, loved him and cared for him...may you find comfort in each other through memories of Paul, his talents, gifts and his tremendous love for his family.

Just a note to let you know your family is in our thoughts .
We never got to know Paul like the rest of the family but we did
hear that he could dance like Fred Astair. What we are wondering
is who among the family is going to take up the dancing and piano
now or has someone done it already? We loved Paul and we love you all!

My mother, Kathryne Jutila, was so fond of all her Luther students. I, of course, knew Mary best. From Redding, CA, I extend my condolences. Alice Jutila McFadden

My deepest condolences to the family. Paul was a bright light in this sometimes dim world. I enjoyed his humor and company at Joan's many times. You are all in my thoughts.
