Dear Gladys, Karl, Gene, Mitch & Paul Jr.,
My condolences and prayers are with you on the death of Paul. He was a fine man who led a full life and left behind a good family.
My earliest remembrance of Uncle Paul goes back to grade school. Your family visited Illinois with a car trailer. I still remember that trailer at my grandparents' farm in Des Plaines. California seemed so far away for me, so exotic and adventurous. I, who had been only as far away as Iowa, envied my cousins.
My father remembers that visit because Paul Jr. complained that he was taking up the whole small plastic swimming pool. I remember how pleased and proud my grandparents were to have a beloved son and his family close by.
My desire for exotic and adventurous places led me to Brazil for over 20 years, and my Uncle Paul followed me there in spirit with donations for orphan children. His generosity toward poor children whom he had never seen showed his goodness.
The Lord sees all this. It is said that death is not a period, but a comma. After this life comes a much better one. God willing, Paul is there now -- waiting for you and all of us to join him.
God has already blessed Paul. May He bless you and all the rest of us.
