Sacramento, California - Peter Michael Groff, age 94, passed away peacefully with family at his side on May 11, 2021, in Sacramento, CA. Peter was born on June 20, 1926, in Mount Carmel, ND, to Peter Michael Groff and Elsie Bertina Groff (McBride).
Peter is survived by his wife Jacqueline "Jackie" Groff, sons Peter Michael Groff, Jr. (Chris) and Patrick Lee Groff (Lynette), Jackie's daughter Judyth Robinson (Deirdre), granddaughter Katy Warner (Nick), grandson Kevin Groff (Jessi), granddaughter Jennell Eichelkraut (Sean), Jackie's granddaughter Jennifer Shaw, great granddaughters Hannah Warner and Alex Warner, great grandsons Connor Groff and Ryan Groff, and great granddaughters Sara Eichelkraut and Emily Eichelkraut.
Peter is predeceased by his first wife of 43 years, Marvel "Marve" Una Groff (Sturlaugson) who passed away on January 24, 1991. Peter was one of eight brothers and sisters, all of whom preceded him in death. He is also predeceased by Jackie's daughter Janett Shaw.
Peter was a proud member of the U.S. Navy during World War II, where he served on the U.S.S. Natrona in the Pacific, and the South Dakota National Guard during the Korean War. Peter was also a proud member of the printing trade and retired from the Sacramento Bee after over 35 years of dedicated service.
Peter was a very accomplished athlete in high school in Langdon, ND. Peter and Marve raised their family in the City of North Sacramento, CA, where Peter continued his athletic interests as a very involved and very successful youth sports manager and coach in the 1950's and 1960's. Peter was an avid golfer and continued actively playing golf into his early 80's. Peter also played softball for many years with the Golden Seniors Softball Club of Sacramento.
Peter and Jackie were married on August 8, 1993, and moved to Sun City Roseville, CA, where they lived happily for 27 years. Peter and Jackie also spent many years as members of the Saraband Dance Club and active members of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Sacramento.
Peter loved his family dearly. Peter was a very kind, patient, and loving man. He had an amazing and infectious smile, and will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.
A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church located at 1615 Morse Avenue, Sacramento, CA.

I loved seeing how Peter would look at and talk to Jackie..the love in his eyes
was so heartfelt.. I miss his laughter, his kindness, his overall caring and support.. I miss him very much.. will talk of him often and keep him in my heart forever. God bless Jackie and family..Donna G
