Redford DuPass Obituary

September 16, 2016 Redford DuPass passed away with family by his side on September 16, 2016. Redford was born in Chicago, IL to Mildred (Fetter) and Redford DuPass Sr. His early years brought tragedy with the death of his mother, father and two younger half-brothers, Leonard and Richard. Red was raised by his aunt, Mary DuPass Luben Gac. At 18, Red joined the Army and fought in the Korean War. He was honored to be selected as one of General Douglas MacArthur's Honor Guards. After returning home, Red completed his BA at Iowa Wesleyan College in 1956. In Iowa, he met his wife of 61 years, Joan O'Connor. Shortly after marriage, Red and Joan moved to Sacramento, California where they started a family. Red had a passion for teaching, and his career in education lasted for 35 years in the Grant School District. After retiring in 1991, Red's passions were bridge and researching and organizing family genealogy. Red was actively involved in organizations throughout his life, from president of Fulton-El Camino Little League, board member of St. Philomene's PTA, St. Philomene School and Our Lady of the Assumption School, to involvement in the Mr. and Mrs. Club, General MacArthur's Honor Guard Company, Knights of Columbus, The Iowa Connection and genealogical societies. Red was the loving husband of Joan DuPass, father to Steven (Kim), Marley Hart, Jane Jacobs (Kent), Mary DuPass (Vince), and Patrick (Lisa). He was preceded in death by his daughter, Caroline. He enjoyed being around his 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. With his genuine, outgoing personality, Red became friends with everyone he met, from the postman, to the store clerk, to the person behind him in line. His circle was wide and he will be dearly missed by all. Rosary will be held at 12:30 p.m. followed by a funeral Mass at 1:00 p.m. at Presentation Church, 4123 Robertson Ave., Sacramento, 95821 on Saturday, September 24, 2016.

Many years have passed and many additional loved ones have joined Uncle Red . The memories are still strong and bring smiles but the loss is larger and deeper as the years go by

I am so sad that Redford passed before we got to spend more time together. He was a cousin to me and we only saw each other a handful of times. But when we were together the fun and laughter was never ending. He is always in my thoughts and happy memories. Thank you Joan for always being so nice.

Five years has not lessened our memories of Uncle Red. Watching Jeopardy or searching on Ancestry bring his spirit and the sound of his voice booming back. His loss has been great but the memories we have are much greater. With love

Words cannot express how deep and wide a loss this is for our family. Uncle Red is the example of; its not how you started, its how you finished. Uncle Red finished like a champion, overcoming loss, setbacks and smiling through it all.He was successful in career, family and life. His exhuberent personality filled the room and our lives. His passion for family and his love for research gave me a deeper knowledge of our family, its trials and its successes. He could remember dates, names and minute details about relatives long gone without hesitating. He was always correct. Uncle Red, I will miss you, your voice booming through the rooms and your voice on the other end of the phone. I know you were greeted by many people whose lives you know a lot about and now you can clear up any questions. Tell Mom hi for us We Love you

Mr Dupass was truly one of those handful of teachers that was positive influence on me. I was a poor, insecure, girl growing up in a home with no car, no money, no dad and a mom that worked as a maid. Mr Dupass taught me that I did have a brain and how to use it. I'm closing in on 65 in a few months and to this day I remember him, his kindness, and his caring that help this young student get her act together and work her way from a GS-2 to a GS-13, ending as the last Commander of a Space Command Detachment at Onizuka Air Force Station, Sunnyval during my almost 40 years of Federal service. I'm sure his touched many more then just me, but what he did for me mattered to this day. Thank you and rest in peace. Student from Del Paso - class of 1967

I will truly miss talking with Red at different gatherings.
Red got along with everyone and enjoyed the company of others.
Red has been fighting for a long time and he fought a courageous battle but it was time for him to have his seat next to the Lord.
What a conversation that would be and I can hear Reds voice going higher and louder with his excitement.
I have always respected Red and valued the times we were able to talk.
The world needs more people like Red.
Red just would shine with pride whenever he had his Family around him.
He lived a good life, raised a beautiful Family and now he is with the Lord and getting ready to see his Family.
