Boyd and Momoh Families

Father Doheny was a great friend and guiding light to three generations of our family. His golf skills and great faith played equal roles in converting our late father to Catholicism (bringing our mom much peace), and he shared his counsel and his wisdom with all of the Boyd girls and our children as well. We will miss him very much. The Boyd family

Fr. Doheny was an exceptional person and a true example of what it meant to "love and serve God". I met Fr. Doheny for the first time in August 2003, at which time I began the RCIA program at St. Mel's. He was our leader, mentor and a great friend. His teachings will forever continue to guide me in my Catholic faith. By far, he made the most significant contribution to my life; i.e. sharing with me the Catholic faith. Fr. Doheny will certainly be missed, but will live on in spirit, as well as in our hearts and memories.

Father Doheny was our priest at St. Paul's Church in the Florin area during the 70's. I will always remember his humorous stories during mass which garnered my sisters' and my attention and made us want to pay attention to the more serious parts of the service. I will also remember the kindness he showed to our family, especially to our father. May God bless his family and many friends during this time of sorrow. Thank you for touching so many lives in Christ's name Father Doheny.

Kay met Fr.Doheny in 1962. My parents Mr & Mrs. Michael Scardello and my sister Leigh were active members of the small parish of St. Paul's Church. Fr. Doheny officiated at our wedding 31 years ago and he was an important part of our lives. We enjoyed being a part of his ministry and will miss him very much. May God bless and keep him.

Fr. Doheny was a compassionate and complex leader whose simple faith and devotion is what allowed St. Mels to be so filled with Grace.

His passing is a tremendous loss to our community. He has been a great influence to so many.

His devotion to Mary, to Jesus presence in the Eucharist, his honesty about the teachings of the Church and fidelity to God, and his obvious love for his congregation made him a fine example to all of us that we may carry through our lives.

God Bless and Godspeed, Father!

Josh & Joe attended St. Mel’s Catholic School, and always enjoyed a visit with Fr. Dohney. Always with a smile he would greet us, and always a smile we would return, how could we not? We surely will miss seeing him stroll the church properties, walking in the neighborhood, or out on the playground with the kids. We will not miss his love, for he passed his love to us, never expecting anything back. Oh what a smile, that is what we see every time we think of him. "Thank you" Fr. We met Father Doheny in 1975 when we started attending St. Mels and as my children went through CCD he was always around, visiting with the parents and kids. When my husband and I decided we wanted to be re-married in the Catholic Church, he was gracious enough to give me one on one classes so that I would complete them in time to be married on our 10th wedding anniversary. He also preformed my daughters wedding in 1987. We have not attended St Mels for several years but we have many fond memories of Father Doheny. We will live on in our memories.

Yes, Fr. Doheny will be missed! I have a hard time believing he is not here. I knew him as a student at St. Mel's School (1984-1993). When I think back to my Catholic school experience, he had a huge impact on what I hold dear about my faith. I loved how we were blessed with his love of the traditions in the Catholic Church, which helped me get closer to God. He did have an unbeatable memory! Whenever I'd see him years later after St. Mel's, he would recall a fond memory from my childhood. He made children feel special and loved. God's love flowed through him. He played such an active role in the school. I remember at the end of every quarter, you would see Fr. Doheny walk the halls, go into each classroom, and hand out the report cards. He would call you by name, shake your hand, and say, "Oh, my good child!" Growing up, he would randomly stop by our house if he was in the area. As a little girl, when I would see big Fr. Doheny standing at our door, it just as easily could have been God. So, thank you Fr. Doheny for the influence you had on me in my formative years. You will be so deeply missed, but your spirit will live on in all those you have touched! God bess you Fr. Doheny.

Fr. Doheney was the first pastor that I really enjoyed when I moved to Sacramento from Minneapolis. I was a Catholic, but not a practicing one, till I joined St. Mel's. Fr. Doheney performed my marriage ceremony and I'm so glad he did. He will be truly missed.

I met Father back in 1998 when I came back to the Catholic Church after being away for 25 years. My wife and I had been involved in an "anti-catholic" fundamental bible chuch for a long time, and it was Father Doheny that showed us how kind and loving God and the Catholic church were. We were captured by Father's love for God, the Bible, and people around him. We'd never met a man so brilliant, knowledgeable, and strong in his faith - yet being kind, humble, and commited to love for all.

I'll never forget how much he loved his congregation. He was always greeting people before Mass even when he wasn't saying Mass at that time. He always smiled at the children and made each of them feel loved and special. He always made time for you when you needed advice or help. When you were distraught over something he always brought Christ's love to you for comfort. I could go on and on...

His humility was an excellent example for all of us and refected so well the image of our Savior Jesus Christ.

It is because of you Father, that our son William is so seriously considering the call to the priesthood.

Even though we know you are with God Father Doheny, we will miss you so much.

Thank you for always being there for our family.

Please pray for all us!

Joe, Terri, Patrick, William (Bill) :) , Krissy, Scotty, and Johnny
