Robert Beck Obituary

BECK, ROBERT E.
Age 73, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2002 in Auburn after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Rossie, IA. After HS he spent four years in the Navy. He received degrees from Iowa State and MIT. Bob worked for AT&T during his business career, attaining the positions of Long Lines Regional VP in San Francisco and VP of HR and Operator Services at corporate headquarters. He retired in 1986. Since then he has devoted his life to his passions of traveling, particularly to the wine regions of the world, fly fishing, wine making, good food, and auto racing. He taught wine appreciation and wine making at Sierra College and was active in Auburn Gold Country Rotary, the Auburn Symphony, Cal Trout, the Society of Wine Educators, and the Sacramento Home Winemakers. Bob was known for his wry sense of humor, the twinkle in his eye and his generosity of spirit. He'll be remembered for his joie de vivre, his robust good cheer towards all, and his intense love of his family. He is survived by his devoted wife Jo, his daughter Susan Beck of Auburn, daughter Lynn van Schilfgaarde of Granada Hills, CA, and son Bill Beck of Southport, CT, as well as five grandchildren and two brothers, Rudy Beck in IA and Paul Beck in NE. A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church, Auburn on Thursday at 11:00 AM. Contributions can be made in his memory to:
