Robert Giere Obituary

Robert A. Giere
October 21, 1942 - January 26, 2021
Pauma Valley, California - Dr. Robert A. Giere passed away on January 26 after a two year battle with cancer. Bob was the son of Dr. C.N. Giere and Helen Butler of Sacramento. He attended McClatchy High School and graduated from New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Oregon in 1964 where he met his future wife Rebecca (Becky) Lau of San Mateo. Bob earned his degree in dentistry from the University of San Francisco. He entered the Navy and gained the rank of Lt. Commander. While in the Navy he completed his specialty in Periodontics at the University of the Pacific. After leaving the Navy Bob settled in Oakland where he had dental practices in San Leandro and Pleasanton. Later, he moved his family to Discovery Bay where they enjoyed many days of boating and water skiing. He had two children, Eric, of Florida, and Debbie, (Butcher) of Washington, who predeceased him, He is survived by his son, Eric and his wife Ashley and his granddaughter Bitsy, and grandchildren Savannah, Cody and Sienna Butcher.
Bob lived a very full life; traveling, running marathons, flying his private plane, and managing the Giere family's real estate which turned out to be a full time job. After his retirement from his dental practices he moved to Pauma Valley, a golf community near San Diego, where he enjoyed trips on his boat, golfing and flying to his favorite spot, Puerta Vallarta, Mexico. Affectionately nicknamed "Captain Bob," he was a leader and organizer. He served as President on the Board of Directors of the Pauma Valley Association, and he established the Robert Trent Jones Golf Society that promoted recognition of and tournaments at Mr. Jones' golf clubs around the world.
Bob loved and was loved deeply by his family; sister Ann (Krane) of Oregon, Lynn (Stevens) of Sacramento and his brothers also of Sacramento, Jack and Norman. Raised in a musical family, there were many occasions of singing around the dinner table and any occasion that brought the family together, He and the family had many wonderful memories of summers spent at their cabin in Tahoma, Lake Tahoe. Bob was always planning parties and celebrations for others. He was gregarious, charismatic, had a great sense of humor and loved to tell a good story.
Bob epitomized the maxim: "It's not the years in your life, but the life in your years." Here's to a wonderful brother, partner, parent and friend. May your spirit fly free knowing you are always in our hearts. A private celebration of life was recently held in Pauma Valley.
