Robert Goad Obituary
November 30, 1933 - April 21, 2025
Fair Oaks, California - Bob was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, November 30, 1933, the only child of Evelyn and Ernest Goad. He graduated from high school in Iron Mountain, Michigan, and earned electrical engineering degrees from Michigan Technological University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His 40-year engineering career started with missile and spacecraft design for an aerospace firm in Los Angeles that included assignments in Houston, Boston, and Australia. He then worked on the California State Water Project based in Sacramento. He was a California Registered Professional Engineer.
He had a California Community College Teaching Certificate and taught mathematics at the community college level in Sacramento and Roseville. In retirement, he was a volunteer math tutor at a local high school.
Bob was a licensed pilot active for 50 years, with commercial ratings in both powered aircraft and gliders, and was a recipient of the FAA Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award. He held the rank of major in the Civil Air Patrol, flew as a Mission Pilot, and served as Squadron Commander of the Blackhawk Squadron in South Lake Tahoe. He was an amateur radio operator (WB6KVE) first licensed in 1947. He was a Past Exalted Ruler of the Folsom Elks Lodge. He was an avid skier, hiker, and scuba diver. He and his wife traveled extensively, visiting all 7 continents.
Bob is survived by his wife Marthajean; son, Jason of Woodland; daughter, Alexandra of Gold River; son, Stefan of Roseville; son-in-law, Jim; daughter-in-law, Thananlada; stepdaughter, Connie Munk and family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held April 30th at 1:00 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home in Folsom. In lieu of flowers, be kind and spend the day doing your favorite hobby. Be like Bob!
