Robert Penney Obituary

Robert Louis Penney was born on 5/22/1947 in Berkeley, California to William (Bill) Penney and Frances (Chonnie) Latiolais Penney and then left us too soon on 10/20/25 after succumbing to an inoperable brain tumor.

Bob (also affectionately known as Fred and Uncle BobFred) grew up in Fresno and Sacramento, and graduated from C.K. McClatchy High School. He went on to study political science at UC Davis while also participating in ROTC. Bob's fervor for politics and his deepest friendships grew out of those formative years. Bob began working for First American Title during college and his long career was spent as a respected and honored title officer.

Bob's interests were many including politics, photography, collecting and cataloguing a vast collection of film and television recordings, perfecting family recipes, home-brewing beer, tracking his daily walks, traveling to Tahoe and Las Vegas, and generously supporting causes including the Sierra Club, PBS, Médecins Sans Frontières, and local politicians across the country.

Bob was a beloved brother, friend, and Uncle. He is survived by brother Douglass Penney (Veeva) of Sacramento, sister Neville Penney Susich (Robert) of Moraga and five nephews and one niece, and five grandnephews and one grandniece.

A celebration of life will be held in the new year and, if so desired, donations in Bob's name may be made to UC Davis, PBS, or the Bristol Hospice Foundation.
