Fort Bragg, California - Ronald Allen Sommer died peacefully on September 7, 2023 in Fort Bragg California at the age of 87. Ron was born in 1936 in Sacramento and was a third generation California native who graduated from CK McClatchy H.S. in 1953. Ron went on to become an accomplished electrician and proud member of the IBEW, Local 340. Ron and his wife Ruth moved to the Mendocino coast after retiring in 1991.

Ron pursued his broad talents and interests with passion and determination, and he was committed to living and enjoying life according to his own design. He will be remembered for racing automobiles (Bonneville Salt Flats), competing in car shows (home-built 1934 Ford 3-window coupe), fishing for salmon and trout (Pacific Ocean, Sacramento River, and Sierra lakes), Tae Kwon Do (2nd degree black belt), and his devotion to dogs and cats (Humane Society volunteer). He was also a cyclist, skier, photographer, collector, music and food lover, gardener, and a do-it-yourselfer. Ron was proud of his family and the life he built.

Ron is survived by his loving wife Ruth, sons Randy (Sharon) and Rick (Janet), grand children Ryan, Erika, Julia, and Elizabeth, stepchildren Joe and Megan Oliver, and brother Roger. Ron was preceded in death by his son Scott.

A Celebration of Life is planned at the Chapel by the Sea in Ft. Bragg on October 21, 2023 from 2-5 pm. Donations in Ron's name can be made to the Mendocino Coast Humane Society.
