December 20, 1935 - May 27, 2024

Sacramento, California - Rudy Julio Hernandez, age 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on May 27, 2024. He was born on December 20, 1935 in Arbuckle, California. He grew up in Davis, California and later moved to Sacramento, California. Rudy is survived by his wife Mickie Hernandez; daughter Esther Cannizzaro; son-in-law Ron Cannizzaro; grandsons Andrew Columbel and Patrick Columbel; brothers Jim Hernandez and Ernest Hernandez; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Rudy served in the Navy for four years as a Fire Control Technician. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and sports. In his younger years he played basketball, football, and baseball. As an adult he was in a multiple bowling leagues and was a Member of the Mexican American Golf Association (MAGA). He was also a member of the Elks Lodge #6, American Legion and was a retired Electrician from IBEW Local 340. However, family was most important to him. He was adored and loved by many.

The family invites relatives and friends for a rosary/viewing scheduled from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM at George L. Klumpp Chapel of Flowers, 2691 Riverside Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95818 on Monday, June 10, 2024. A Funeral mass is scheduled for 10:00 AM on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at St. James Catholic Church, 1275 B St. Davis, CA 95616 and will be laid to rest at the Davis Cemetery and Arboretum 820 Pole Line Rd. Davis, CA 95618.

On behalf of the Mexican American Hall of Fame Sports Association, we want to express our deepest condolences to Mickie y toda la Familia in this difficult time. Rudy & Mickie were very supportive of our fundraising for youth scholarships & recognizing Sacramento athletes. We will miss him. May his memory become a loving treasure for Familia.

Rudy was a really wonderful guy. His smile was infectious. Wherever Mickie was Rudy was by her side and vice versa. They are wonderful role model for marriage. We will miss Rudy. Our sincere condolences to Mickie, their kids and family. May your memories bring comfort to you.

I am so sorry for your loss. And a loss it is! I had the privilege of knowing Rudy for many years, all filled with fun, laughter and most prominently love of family and friends.
