Sandra McCALL Obituary

McCALL, Sandra Irene Ella
Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister passed away early on Easter morning, April 4, 2010, at her home in Danville, CA. Sandra is survived by her devoted husband of 51 years, Donald McCall of Danville; their dear son, Donald ''Buck'' McCall, Jr. and his wife, Becky of Sparks, NV; her two grandsons, Sam and Jake; and her brothers, Michael Siem of Bella Vista, CA and John Turco of Sacramento, CA. Many cousins, in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends also mourn her passing. Another dear son, Michael Sean McCall, preceded her in death in 1961.

Sandra was a life-long northern California resident. She was born in Sacramento in 1938 to the late Dorothy (Campbell) and George Siem. Her mother's second husband, the late John Turco, Sr. of Michigan Bluff, CA, was her loving adoptive Dad. While growing up in Sacramento, Sandra spent a lot of time in the company of her beloved grandparents, the late Dave and Irene Campbell. Time spent with them at the family house in Truckee was a favorite childhood memory. In the mountains, she found her lifelong love of nature. Donner Lake was the ''pool'' she learned to swim in. Throughout her life, many stray creatures, from toads to dogs, benefited from Sandra's kindness. Her and Don's wildlife-friendly backyard is testimony to this.

Sandra was a homemaker for most of her life and was active as a volunteer during Buck's school years, even serving as a PTA president. One of her jobs before she was married was being a store model -- she always had a great knack for style and loved a good bargain. She found pride in her Scotch-Irish, early Californian, Mayflower and Penobscot ancestry. She enjoyed visiting extended family, camping and fishing, reading, cooking and trying out new recipes, studying astrology and natural remedies and giving advice. She loved a good joke; her laugh was infectious! Sandra was a tough softie -- a good and generous person who treasured her family. Words cannot express how much she was loved and how much she will be missed.

Services will be held on Saturday, April 10th at 10am in the Chapel of East Lawn Memorial Park, 43rd Street & Folsom Blvd., Sacramento, CA where she will be laid to rest near her infant son, Michael.

Dear Don and Buck, My heart was truely sadden when I heard of the passing of Sandy. She was a beautiful women with a great zest for life and made my life so much more complete. She was like a second mother to me. Growing up with all of you and taking memorable trips to Michigan Bluff was some of the greatest times I ever had. Sandy was so full of life and her infectious laugh was the highlight of any conversation or evening of playing cards. Whether it be giving me a ride to school or just hanging out and having dinner in the evenings with all of you. Your were family to me and to my family. I will truely truely miss her, my heart will feel much more empty now but the memories will live on forever. Don you and Sandy were inseparable, and I loved the way you both would tell a story. And Don you were always the gentlemen, and you would say "you go ahead honey, you tell it better than I do" But the truth be known you both were a beautiful Love Story. And Buck you were such a loving and caring son to your mother. I will miss her so deeply. And I hope God can give you both comfort in your time in need. Love you guys, Richard Williams

Dear Mr. McCall and Buck,

I am so sorry to hear that your wife and mother, Sandy, has passed away. I have very fond memories of living next door to your family in Sacramento on Remo Way. I can still see Sandy and my mom sitting out front on the grass between our houses socializing on a warm summer day while they kept an eye on us kids while we were running in the streets, playing basketball at your house, flying kites in the front yard or just tearing up and down the sidewalk on our bikes. I still remember Chester and Cesar, too. I can also remember going to the Turn Verein Club quite a few times with your family as well.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I will be thinking of you and your family during this most difficult time and will never forget Sandy. Yes, she did have an infectious laugh and a great sense of humor. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family and may God bless you all.

With fond memories of Sandy, may God keep her close to Him.

With sympathy,

Margo Ball-Southward
