Sherry Hester Witkowski Obituary

Sherry Lynn Hester Witkowski

February 26, 1957 - June 23, 2024

Sacramento, California - It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Sherry Lynn Hester Witkowski of Sacramento, California. She died peacefully on June 23, 2024 at the age of 67 after an almost two year battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loved ones. She is preceded in death by her mother Rose Alvina Elbon and her father Joe Benjamin Hester. Sherry is survived by her husband of 41 years, Timothy Richard Witkowski, her beloved sweet boy Rigby, her sisters, Terri Hester Stelfox (John Stelfox) Mickey Hester Walsh (Chris Walsh), and Mary Beth Carroll, her step-sisters Cathy Sackett (Jerry Sackett) and Sandy Welch (Rick Welch), her step-daughter Shayna Shaffer (Jon Shaffer). She is also survived by 5 nieces and nephews: Haley Noreen Spurlin, Jacob Aaron Spurlin, Ryan Andrew Seniuk, Maribel Rose Costa, Michael Christopher Benevidez as well as 10 step nieces and nephews.

Sherry was born in El Centro,CA and lived the first 20 years of her life in Southern California, this is where she attended school, graduating high school from Our Lady of Peace in 1975. Sherry obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from UCSF in 1999. In 2007 she became a Human Resources Manager for Sutter Health for 17 years, retiring in 2023. After graduating High School, she moved to Northern California, where she met her husband Tim and they married in May of 1983. Together they enjoyed a very happy marriage, full of laughter, love and of course, their puppies.

Sherry was known among her family and friends as having an optimistic outlook and a wonderful sense of humor. She always took time to listen and give sound, sage advice when anyone needed it. Sherry had an interest in many different subjects, some of them being, sewing, painting, reading and travel. Her ability to book the most perfect Air BnB every trip was astounding and her spreadsheets were something to behold. She will forever be known as the most organized and logical person in the family, in the most loving way possible.

Sherry battled her illness with great strength, bravery and optimism. Her loved ones are devastated and grieving deeply at the loss of their wife, sister, aunt and friend.

Tim and family,
I am so sorry to learn of Sherry's illness and passing. She was a wonderful co-worker and I appreciated her knowledge, skills and partnership at work. Personally, I loved our conversations of our family history, and the wonderful vacations that she planned for her and Tim. Please accept my sincere condolences. She was a very special lady.

My heart grieves with yours. To know that I will never again have a long conversation with Sherry that touches on every topic imaginable brings me great sadness. We became friends through work at Sutter where her organizational skills, professionalism, and clear sightedness were valued by everyone. I will miss her friendship through which she always shared humor, wisdom and caring.

My deepest sympathies Tim and family with the loss of Sherry. I went to OLP with Sherry and she was always sweet and kind. What a great life she had with you! Love, Julie Biewer
