Silas HOFFER Obituary
Went home to be with his Heavenly Father after 97 years here on earth on the morning of Friday, November 9, 2012 and to join his beloved wife of 50 years Martha C. Hoffer. He is survived by his devoted daughter Sandra Hoffer Acosta of El Dorado Hills; his grandchildren Suzanne J. Hill (Greg) of Shingle Springs and Curtis W. Acosta (Patricia) of Tucson and 5 great-grandchildren, Jayna, Sophie, Zachary, Ollin and Santiago.
Silas was born on February 26, 1915 in Clarks, Nebraska to Jenny and Van Hoffer. He married his life-long partner and love Martha C. Hoffer on February 6, 1939. Si grew up and worked on the family farm until he joined the Navy in 1942 to fight proudly for our country in WWII. After the war, Silas and his family moved back to the farm in Nebraska. In 1955 they moved to Mountain View, CA. He retired from United Airlines after 20 years of service. Upon retiring, Si and Martha moved to Rescue, CA to be near family. Si spent the rest of his life volunteering at his local church Foothills Methodist in Rescue and working for the Shingle Springs Senior Lunch Program.
Celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, November 17 at 3:00 pm, Foothills United Methodist Church, 3301 Green Valley Road, Rescue CA. 530-677-4910. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to Foothills Methodist Church or any Veterans group.
