Sofio Urata

1930 - 2017

Sofio T. Urata was born on August 17,1930 in Omaha, Nebraska. He left this earth on December 2, 2017 surrounded by his loved ones. Sofio left Omaha when he was only 15 years old via train to San Jose, CA. He was a craftsman by nature and quickly learned to be a cement mason. At the early age of 18, Sofio and his friend Sal formed S & S Cement Contractors, placing and finishing many of the sidewalks in San Jose. In 1973 Sofio and his sons co-founded Urata & Sons Cement, Inc. Together they were able to build the company to one of the largest subcontractors in Northern California. Many of their projects can be seen throughout California and Nevada today. Sofio retired at the age of 74 and began his hobby of photography. He traveled around the world. His favorite travel was Africa. Sofio had an extraordinary work ethic. He was compassionate about all things: his love for his family, his friends, traveling the world, animals, and nature. He truly loved and embraced all this world had to offer. He is survived by his son, Charles, his daughter, Frances. Four granddaughters: Kelly, Tracy, Karly (Chris), Nicole (Jason). Seven great-grand-children: Katherine, Anthony, Madeline, Joey, Tommy, Faith and Sofia. His significant other Peggy, her grandchildren Bailey and Blake and many nieces and nephews. Viewing at 12:30 p.m and Service to follow at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2017 both will be held at St. Maria Goretti Church 8700 Bradshaw Road, Elk Grove, CA 95624. 916-647-4538.
