Stephen Dobson Obituary

Stephen John Dobson
February 8, 1962 - March 5, 2023
Sacramento, California - Stephen John Dobson was born February 8, 1962, and died unexpectedly on March 5, 2023, after suffering a stroke. Steve was the much-beloved owner of Park Place Landscaping. His many talents were in high demand throughout Sacramento and the surrounding communities. He was a generous and kind person who enjoyed working outdoors, loved animals and invariably came to know his customers and their pets as extended family. Steve was a strong man with natural athletic ability. He loved the ocean, and his big brother Tom taught him to scuba dive in his youth. From there, he excelled in abalone free diving, spearfishing, cycling, and hot yoga. Known as 'Yoga Steve" to his many friends, he led classes at Purple Moon Hot Yoga until COVID closed the studio.
Stephen was born in Rancho Cordova to USAF Major Dale Dobson and Mary Phyllis (Miller) Dobson, who pre-deceased him. He is survived by his longtime love, Virginia Rich, of Carmichael, and his siblings Thomas Dobson (Jill), of Titusville, FL, Deborah Dobson Kåge (Jonas), of Boda Kyrkby, Sweden, and Melinda (Dobson) Mejia (Robert), of Bakersfield, CA. Steve leaves also his beloved nephew Adam Mejia, and adored nieces Amelia (Mejia) Gonzales (Ismael), and Isabelle Kåge (Jonathan O'Conner). Steve's absence is mourned by pups Lucas Blue and Xena Marie, and we take joy knowing he is playing in heaven with Cowboy, Scout, Minus, Minga, Mycollie, Winston, Zoe, Gray Davis, Casper, Budbear and J-Baby.
A celebration of life for Steve will be held Sunday, July 16, 2023, in Rancho Cordova. Please contact a family member for details if you care to attend in casual attire to honor a most casually elegant man who shall not be forgotten. Namaste, Yoga Steve.

I was thinking of you as I took a walk and right then, a bright heads-up penny caught my eye. I put it with some of your ashes I keep near me always. There were lots of dragonfly visits over the weekend, and I just know it's you visiting poolside. The pups are ok and taking care of me as best they can. I will always love you and you'll always be with me.

It´s the second Valentine´s Day without you and a sunny cold day. We are missing you every moment. An owl sent strong messages a few nights ago, waking me with a smile thinking of you. I will always love you and you will always be with me. Rabbit

I look for you in clouds and nature every day and in the moon every night. I know the owl flying over me in the morning was your spirit, and I felt your love and protection. I will always love you and you will always be with me.

My heart is broken just now finding out about the loss of Stephen. He was a dear friend to me for many years. After I moved to Texas nearly 20 years ago without fail I would still get a Happy Birthday or holiday greeting, or an occasional chat by phone.
Virginia, my heart breaks for you. You were his true love and I know he is watching out for you from above.
To his siblings and family, he was like no other, a brother, an uncle, like no other.
I am so sorry for this loss.

I remember meeting Steve when he started landscaping with us at Don Leek Landscaping, after school while still in high school. What a great guy.

Love you Uncle Steve. I tried to make it to your celebration but the weather and flights were not with me, to my great despair. Miss you Your Bellestar

The words won´t come and I will assume it´s because it´s so very hard to lose a family member and Steve was part of the Mejia family in every sense. We shared parents, siblings and children together. Holidays, graduations and most recently a beautiful wedding for us all to be together here in Bakersfield one more time. On behalf of the Mejia´s we send to you, our Dobson family, our deepest sympathies on the loss of our Brother Steve. Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord and may perpetual light shine upon him. We love you Steve

I have known Steve for about 40 years. He was so kind, he landscaped a couple of my places. I will miss him dearly. It was always so fun watching him get so happy diving and playing in basketball leagues and tournaments. Camping was so fun when he met us at the Ocean. He loved animals so much. My prayers go out to his family, his longtime girlfriend and his pups. Miss you Steve.

I went to High School with Steve. Was able to spend time with him after high school as well. He was always fun to be around. We shared a love of dogs. He will be missed.

My condolences. I remember being a little kid and seeing Stephen up in Bucks lake along with his sisters. My father James Rowe was his second cousin.

We´ve known Steve for over 32 years. He landscaped two of our homes, front and back, and did a beautiful job on both. We became friends and yes, we knew his dogs, and he knew ours. He was dedicated to his work, but he had a goofy side as well that we also appreciated.

Steve, we are so sad you are gone. We miss you already. Thank you for everything.
